Pay equivilent....reefer vs dry van

There is no shortage of drivers willing to work for next to nothing, so I'd say that companies aren't going to offer any extra.

Besides, how does per-mile pay in any way compensate for extra work and worry? Reefer and dry van pull exactly the same. The extra work and worry comes with loading, unloading, fueling, monitoring, washouts, etc. Those things should be paid by the hour, not by the mile.

 

i agree but is it much worse than sweeping out a dry box ......or nailing down bords to secure some dry loads i have done....

would rather spot check produce than mess with coils or forklifts or any other sort of pia dry stuff i have done .....and they almost allways want this stuff yesterday some of that dry stuff has way more time to play with than i want take the good with the bad

i'm pretty sure i make more per week than most dry box drivers. Besides that calm relaxing noise urging you to sleep soundly is a plus

 

Every reefer job I had paid about a nickel more. I had one job paying percentage and made $1700-2000 every 9 days. I wouldn't pull anything else. There's just something about reefer that is more enjoyable. The long hauls are a definite plus. You might spend a day unloading and loading, but then you spend 2-4 days doing what you like best and drive.
