Or maybe they are starting to get a little picky with who they put on, like they should. And this was just a reason for them to deniy him.

You didn't read what I posted. I never said I was with mercer. I said my friend was with mercer and left after a few months(I got his tarps) I also said I talked with a mercer driver last week with less than flatering things to say. Now with that said I will say I have gottenloads before from landstar and mercer that weren't on their boards, but on Dat that paid well. So I would say the famous line "that we get the good loads before they hit the boards" isn't a 100% true. My way of looking at leasing to a company is you're basically an employee who keeps up and pays for the MOST EXPENSIVE part(the truck). So you're stuck with the company always into your pocket, that's like having to eat the same meal everyday.

But what some people seem to not take into account is when/if you get stuck by a broker or shipper that doesn't want to pay, leasing onto a carrier and letting them carry that burden looks pretty darn good. And some people couldn't sell a dog a bone, let alone sell their services for acuiring good paying freight. I have ran my own authority before, to much stress worrying about when or if I was to get paid for me. Trucking should be like some other businesses are, you get paid before the work is done.
Blind Driver, Clasix1055, Travelinman and 1 other person Thank this. -
mcgoo, I had authority for 16 years and had 2 trucks and 6 guys leased to me. I know the routine. I read exactly what you posted.
your post implied you couldn't make money with mercer since your friend gave back his trailer and you met one other guy who wasn't happy. I understood very well that you have never been leased to mercer, I knew that from your post.
the fact is when you lease a trl every detail is gone over and explained thoroughly, so there isn't a hidden deal that causes one to not make it
and for every one who has less than flattering things to say, I can show ya five who love the place. yes, many people do get good paying mercer loads off the broker board, fact is the lease trucks aren't always in the area, but you can also bet if the load is brokered it WAS on our loadboard first. so its true if it ends up brokered it was bypassed by the lease guys , many times simply because no one was in the area.
and at mercer no one is ever into your pocket, the loads are paid within a few hours and after each settlement everything is current, we don't wait a week or so for our money. most times after I scan bills the settlement is done and paid within 4 to 5 hours with no additional fees, plus I like the generous fueldiscounts, the fact they pay all ifta taxes and if you have a credit, they apply to next years tag and they buy your lunch whenever you are in Louisville. as another guy said if ya cant make some money here, you don't know how to make it anywhere. -
Flatbed, where you in Louisville this morning?

I had my own authority before Mercer and I truely make out better with Mercer. I did fine with my own authority but make as much this way without the extra work. The fuel discounts and ifta make up the difference for me. Not to mention all the extras
Though I wish we could get better commucation on load matches like sent to us via text.
