I never worked for knight but I am on my way home after a 3 day orientation. If I had the patience to deal with the idiots in the Ohio terminal I think they may have been okay to work for. What pissed me off was the lack of organization. I am self employed and that cause a problem so I had to spend my first 2 days proving I owned a business. They seem real laid back but for me that doesn't work. I just got my cdl so I have no expert with driving or other companies. Day three I was told everything was good and they were just waiting on my drug test. They called me later that day and said they weren't going to hire me. The reasons were I texted during a slide show. I explained my step mom was in the hospital and that's why I responded. They said they couldn't prove my work history and I did get in a brief argument with the medical examinar. I was not reimbursed for my transportation or time at orientation but I learned that truck driving isn't for me

Trucking might be for you, just not Knight. A lot of people excuse Knights practices as "paying dues"

Oh and PT is right about complaining and it having an adverse affect on your job. Actually most of us refer to that as standing up for yourself. Amazing after all this time, Knight continues to be just as bad as they were before.

Why would I help YOU out? You didn't pay the last two times. OH YOU'RE a complainer.

Another crappy run, I just did 12? OH YOU'RE a complainer.

For the SECOND time could I get reimbursed for this scale and tolls? OH YOU'RE a complainer

I am going to try it one more time with another company. If I have another bad experience I will leave it alone all together. I have a clean driving record a college degree own a 500k house and owe a small but successful business. I decide to start driving because I wanted to learn the ropes before getting my own car hauler and trying to get into the business. I guess when you get your cdl and have no experience you have to go through the ropes but I'm not going to deal with lies and bs along the way. Some days I can deal with it some days I can't. I came out here to Ohio and didn't have a positive attitude so next time around I will try it with a better attitude

IMHO, attitude is EVERYTHING! Trucking can be incredibly frustrating, and how you choose to react to those frustrations can make, or break, your day, week, month...et cetera.

    Good luck with your plans.

I agree but when I arrived they told me they needed more info to verify my employment. That was too much to swallow. I wouldn't have been able to pay a 4000 a month mortgage if I wasn't working. if it doesn't start of good it won't end good. Lesson learned

Did you bring paperwork as far as tax records to prove you we're self employed?

I am in the same situation as you. I have ben self employed for the past 15 years but I DO have my tax returns with me. I hope that is all they need to verify my employment history. When I spoke to them on the phone they claimed that was all I needed.

I faxed 2 years of tax returns. When I got there I gave them my profit and loss statements> That still wasn't enough so they had me call the IRS (i was on the phone for 1 hour). They finally said that everything looks god and i SHOULD be fine. The biggest problme i had was the argument i got in with the guy who did my physical. Everything was good but i have a history of High blood pressure. My bp was the same when i was in school and they examiner said i would have to get it checked every year. the guy who did the testing for knight said every 3 months. i rally got into it with him because he had me come back again and even though it was lower still recommended 3 months. I figured oh well 3 months it is but because i gave him a piece of my mind he called the terminal and told them i was argumentative. i also was told that texted a few times during one of the slide shows. I told them to look at my phone to show that the only reason i texted was because i was following up on my step mother who was rushed to the ER today. I participated in the slide show by asking questions but the guy said i was texting and not paying attention. no offense to anyone but i was surrounded by toothless overweight people with no college degree. though i was always smiling through it and talking in a calm and collected manner i knew it wasn't going to work out. The orientation was a joke no one even spoke to us until day 2 we sat in a room for 6 hours and there were only 4 of us. It just isn't for me because I know that this was a test of my patience and trucking is a career where you need a lot of it.

they told me that was all i needed as well but when i got there it was a different situation. Just remain calm and know that they move real slow but if you are patient it should work out. also know that if you dont get hired you wont get paid for your time there. It gave them my customers info so they could contact them but they still couldnt verify it. I told them to google my company name and ALL the information is there. I told them to contact the state and see that the company is registered and licensed. Finally i said google my address and you can see i live in a 600k house and how could i afford that if i wasn't working. i got so pissed that I rubbed them the wrong way but never lost my composure.

one last thing I want to say is I do not know the company well enough to bash them. I am sure for some it will work out fine . My issues may very well be the same with any trucking company I apply for. I just wanted to tell my story. good luck to all the new drivers and stay calm . live and learn. One thing that i learned form this forum that helped me is make sure you have enough money to get home.
