You almost have to speak Spanish in order to live anywhere in Texas. I got into it this morning with a Mexican driving for someone who wrote the company name on a piece of duct tape and stuck it to the door. Under the company name was Ft Worth, Texas.

We have our problems in the Memphis regional area, but at least we talk slow enough so that we can all understand one another.

 

Pick a state with no personal income tax & an area near a major corridor. Their are 9 states with no personal income tax. That's one reason I'm going to relocate to Nevada plus I like the hot weather in Southern Nevada.

Make a list of the 9 states, then get out the old truckers atlas and look at cities/towns close to the main corridors, such as Nashville, TN which has I-40, I-65, I-24.
Houston, TX : I-10, I-45, Hwy. 59 (tons of tanker companies)
Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX : I-35, I-20, I-30
Reno, NV : I-80 corridor running from San Francisco to New York.
Birmingham, AL : I-20, I-65, I-59 (great area for flatbedders)

If the state income tax isn't an issue look at other options, such as Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Denver and on and on.

 

Dallas has always worked for me. Schneider always had me home and off every other weekend and usually through the house the other weekends and that was running system freight. My previous employer ran me coast to coast and home every weekend. Either Northeast to Southwest or just straight across from So Cal to Atlanta. It's a great freight hub. As for your wanting to buy land, I bought 20 acres of wooded land 10 miles north of Greenville off US 69 in 2003 for $28,000. It's gone up since then but you always see parcels out here advertised by owner. I grew up in Plano and Richardson and knew at an early age city living wasn't for me.

Since you drive for Prime, look at their dedicated accounts in other areas. Denver, Chattanooga, Shelbyville, TN and many other areas.

 

you are corrrect. There isn't anything wrong with speaking Spanish. And I get that there are many people and cultures that speak more than one language. I have nothing against anyone that doesn't speak English. I just can't understand when someone talks to me using Spanish. I don't speak Spanish, I'm not interested in learning, and I'm not going to a Spanish speaking country. The only languages I speak are English and Mississippian.

To each his own. That Mexican I got into it with today parked his truck at a fuel pump at the Pilot, blocking it from me and a Swifty behind me. I don't care if his native language is smoke signals, when I say "move your god ---- truck" I want him to understand that he needs to move his truck so me and every other hand out here can move on and make a living. I guess what I'm asking for is that folks, no matter where they come from, figure out how to communicate with the majority of us American truck drivers who speak English as our only language.

Yes, it's has good freight corridors through Knoxville, Chattanooga, Memphis, Nashville.

 

I was thinking TN would be great as well....no state income tax so it puts you a little ahead of the game and as we all know every little bit tends to add up. Plus Knoxville seems to have some of the best fuel prices on the I-75 / I-40 lanes. Just my 1.5 cents.
