You have to work long hours here at Landstar to ''make it work''..This means alot of work on the computer and alot of phone calls to the agents..Sometimes i work 5-8 hours on the computer and make calls to find great paying loads...IT IS CALLED WORK...and yes, sometimes it is a ####### JOKE.!!!!...I hear ya...
I would never leave the ''freedom'' i have here to go with another ''crack the whip'',do as i say outfit..Once the CEO PIGS take my choices and freedom away,i will be gone and working as a bartender at a strip club...Dryver Thanks this. -
I concur that rates have taken a nosedive with Landstar at least on the van side of things. Not only that but the freight they do have is littered with gross load pay that looks good only because the FSC and accessories are included. Take those away and the real rate comes out which is really bad. I sit at home anymore more then I take a load. I cannot afford to take a good paying load where out bound freight is non existent or junk and not wanting to spend my profits from the decent load dead heading. But let's be honest, Landstar is like CH Robinson, Landstar is basically a logistics company who moves freight. It just so happens it has its own fleet of BCO's who can haul that freight but in the end Landstar uses whatever means at its disposal to get the freight hauled. In the end all the BCO's could go away and Landstar would survive. That is why the agents are more important and the fact we can whine until next week about cheap freight and lousy lanes from Landstar. The fact the BCO has become less important is a true statement. But is this problem a Landstar only thing? Absolutely not as I have talked to plenty of Owner/Op's on their own with their own authority struggling with their share of bad brokers who lie and cheat them. The sad part about Landstar is you have to work with the agents and even though you can just stop working with certain ones. The number of bad ones at Landstar have started to become more numerous. Many just flat out want to move freight and could care less if its benefits the BCO. The load board for Landstar is a new BCO's only real connection to Landstar freight until he makes better and more significant connections with agents who might provide them with better and more stable freight. The problem with this is I doubt very much this typically happens as much as it used to. I think more and more you will begin to read more complaints at how new BCO's struggle for months and practically go broke looking for that stable freight lane with Landstar. I stay because of the freedom but then again I can afford to do so. I own my truck and my trailer. My proof that Landstar's attractiveness is dwindling on that freedom is that fact that Landstar used to tout that you should run less miles for more pay. But in reality of today how can you argue the freedom when the cheap loads require you to run more? Yes, freedom is important but only if you can afford that freedom.

You are running a business which is more than just looking at load boards and waiting for something to show up. As with any business it is about relationships and marketing with brokers and agents. You have to knock on doors and find the good paying loads. If you are seeing only table scraps then you were late getting to the table. If you need to be babysat and spoon fed then this gig ain't for you.
landstar8891 Thanks this. -
*NOTE*..These were all ''hen pecked'' off the boards that you are all looking at...!!!!!...Granted,it took me 4 hours..
Every load was under 9,000 LBS...
I will ask again...What are you doing WRONG...!!!!
