It's very hard to be a "professional" truck driver....when most of the trucking industry is run by very unprofessional people.
They all suck!

Oh BS. Most of you think trucking sucks or companies suck because you can't do the job or refuse to do it. I read through these and shake my head. I don't have the same problems some on this board do. I'm respected. I have a good time. Only one company ever ripped me off, and that scumbag did it to hundreds of drivers, and Thanx to this country's "put businessmen before the people" garbage, he and his mail order Russian bride opened up another business and ripped those people off as well. If you want respect, earn it. Do the job. Safely. Without whining every five seconds. Dress professionally. Nobody is asking you to wear a suit and tie, but God, look at some of the pigs out here. Learn to work through problems. Learn to communicate. The biggest problem out here is lack of communication skills some drivers have. Sure. Some companies aren't the best. Either learn how to work with it, or be a grown up, leave on good terms, and find another job. You'll find, that, most companies don't suck. Most of it is a bunch of entitled steering wheel holders who think that the world owes them something. Nobody owes you anything. Get over it. Get to work. And be professional.

I take it, your pride was hurt when you found out you couldn't cut it in this industry. As a company driver, I can not make a 100 grand a year but, I can make 70, and have good ins., paid vacations, and home on weekend. I think that's pretty good for a guy without a collage education.jeff18 Thanks this. -

most companies don't care about the driver, just deliver the load. I dress professional, do a good job, never late, but if I left they would hire someone else to do my job and not care. trucking industry for the most part is a cold unthankful business, I decided long ago look after myself and my family first. the problem is you can do a great job for a company and a sloppy stupid jerk can deliver on time also and all the company sees is two loads delivered on time, hard to stand out from the crowd sometime when the bar is not very high.... my two cents

There are good companies out here, you just have to find them on your own and very few of them pull vans. The van/reefer business is very cheap, cut throat, and dirty. With drivers being a dime a dozen companies tend to not care about the drivers.unloader Thanks this. -
Of course they all suck. The industry is here to make money not friends.

With bad economy, and a lot of ex-factory workers looking a job with similar pay, many of them go into trucking. There are so many new students, the companies have no motivation to treat us right anymore. Personally I LOVE to drive but its all the bs that comes with it from dispatch, DOT, and customers, that make it stressful and at some times feeling like its just not worth it anymore. They will abuse you as much as they can, and when you tell them what is legal and safe, right and wrong, they'll just replace you with a new driver fresh out of training.
So while not quitting your current job while looking for a better job like a smart person would do, the question is not which company is bad, but which one isn't? Some pay slightly more than others, and some give slightly less bs than others, but in the end so many drivers are unhappy except for the fact that they love to drive and put up with the bs.Lone Ranger 13 Thanks this.
