What I hear.... seems those super singles are supper trouble...
-
They would be hard to cook and probably taste terrible.

We have them on a few trailers and I always get at least a half mile per gallon better mpg's when I am pulling one and the trailer pulls better/smoother, too.HeWhoMustNotBeNamed Thanks this. -
Only if you don't tenderize them enough!

I've been running them for three years, and most of the folks who don't like them have never run them a mile. No problems here. Maintenance... keep em a bit overinflated to reduce side-wall flexing. Other than that, they're great on fuel mileage, and I've never (knock on something wood!) had any problems with them.Logan76 and Zen Trucker Thank this. -
now THAT'S a vegetarian!!

Great Falls Mt. Dragged the chain all day today. Twisted my back opening my hood this morning and it just bugged me all day. Had a engine check light come on in Pocatello, no probs just went to Cat in Idaho Falls, was a loose connection on a solenoid . Fixed and gone in less than 30 minutes. Rainy dreary day all the way up here. Had the motivation when I woke up to try for Medecine Hat in Alberta , would have got 2 more hours drive time once into Canada but just couldn't find the motivation later in the day to keep going. Oh well, still got until Sunday morning to go the 600 miles from here to Saskatoon Sk. As TApete would say .....sigh!

Hey.... Thank you 'olhand. Yes, it took me a while to figure out the best way to get there but thanks to google maps satellite and a little bit of good common sense, I beat my GPS (it was giving me a non-trucking route
) and I got there safe and sound. Place was right in the middle of Jacksonville, close to downtown...
Loading took about 30 mins and I rushed to second shipper in Savannah, GA. Now I am at this not so popular truck stop on US 78, AL. It was too dark for a good picture...
I thought I had got a great spot, fist row, easy out. However, truck to my left left and now that empty spot is the only path to the back of parking lot...
But now I am not moving.
After my drop tomorrow, will head to Birmingham... DSP got me another load to p/up Sunday... Thought I was going to reset this weekend... Oh well... think will have to work with my recycle hrs next week....'olhand Thanks this. -
at the house for the weekend, i broke a tourqe arm today backing in, never had that happen, had them wear out on old macks but never bust...
broke the one from the inside of the frame rail to the top of the rear end on the back axle...
my boss is probably the most knowledgeable trucker i know, he has a 1900hp pulling truck he built and trucks every day 7 days a week...he told me it just happened because the back axle was wanting to walk out as i was jacking into a tight spot and being i was loaded it just over stressed that arm and snapped it...
and i wasn't just taking off, i was in gear, no throttle, jacking into a spot @ a dairy when i heard the nasty "snap"... -
A friend of mine who drove with super singles for 2 yrs said they tend to slide more than the regular ones, specially on snow, also, they can blow out more frequently... and are much heavier... I would refuse if my company gave me a truck with those.... we are required to return a blown out tire to company shop at terminal and I can just imagine trying to tie them up on the catwalk...
-
When they break loose it is a smooth departure... not herky-jerky like duals.
Not my experience. The folks with duals have more trouble from what I've seen.
Only if you don't maintain them. Most company drivers don't ever bother putting an air gage to their tires- which is the problem.
But, when you compare one wide single and wheel to a pair of duals and wheels, there is a weight savings.
Each to his/her own. I'll be sticking with the wide singles myself.Rocks Thanks this.
