Hey guys i agree with a few on here that wonder about this company and that one been driving since 1980 and i always get these new guys just starting out asking me whats the best company
well guess what i tell them the rule of thumb is there is no one company better or worse than any other its what a driver is willing to tolerate good or bad.
One thing for sure i did work for knight few yrs ago and for me it was fine had a good DM and got good miles and once in awhile i may have to find an MTY but i was always paid for it.
I left because i wanted a brk from the road for awhile and help wife when she was in hosp.
So new guys starting out goto the newest truckstops and talk to the drivers they will always be honest with you thats how you findout about a company then decide.
Yes. I am still with Knight

Because getting paid the time spent looking for an MT was not even an option when I worked there over 4 yrs ago. Your 'reward' for your time spent was getting a load and getting out of there!!
Hope your wife is doing OK... -
From what I been hearing, now the reward for working for Knight is working for Knight. If they could get drivers for free, they would. I say if you can't maximize profits without stiffing the drivers, your biz model sucks. I don't care how bad the economy gets no one is gonna do it for free, or cuz it's 'fun', cuz it isn't.
Dna Mach Thanks this. -
All the Knight drivers that claim they get paid for everything seem to have to fight for it. I've never worked for a company that made me jump through hoops to get what's mine, except for Knight.
Knight is to trucking as to what KFC is too chicken. They might look the same but they will both slowly but surely kill you while sucking you dry.
"Go deliver this for an empty..." LOL "Hey I didn't get paid...." "Well I put in for it..I'll check..." Yea I'll bet you will....
Word for the wise..they hate drivers that refuse to do work on grounds that your still waiting to get paid for the last four "favors" your trying to get paid for.tommy36years Thanks this. -
mittrucker dont listen to no one ,This business is what it is, Its demanding and not a lot can put up with and the ones that are are the ones making it happen, If i had to complain about everything in the last 36 years I could write a book, The most important thing is what you make of of it, Go in with a good attitude and take care of your equipment keep it clean because its your house when your on the road , I hear on this drivers leave trucks don't take care of them and they whin about it they are the ones that wont make it the first year, Your still a rookie until you get at least 5 years you got to pay your dues in this business and believe me you will we all did it, I'm a rookie mountain driver and there is no more stress in what i do every time i go down a mountain with black ice ice my heart goes a million beats a minute and i have been doing it for 36 years every one learns everyday they drive a learning experience of course drivers are going to put up a ##### but that's part of this business, I still learn everyday i am out here because when you do that that means your driving with your head and that's good for safety of others you share the highways with, Always remember when you see a family in a car with young children you never forget safety because if you don't that family could get killed from a stupid decision good luck to you god bless a lot of lives depend on you every minute your driving down the highway, On the week endI am off im a paramedic with a helicopter unit LIFE FLIGHTI see it everyday i work because a trucker made the the wrong decision take care always rember when you cant learn you need to find another profession

I got my permit about a month ago and put in my notice after 7 years driving a transit van for seniors. My last day was October 24th. Now I have been tying up loose ends and waiting for my retirement (cash out) check so I can buy things I need for trucking.
I plan to call Squire in Phoenix this week to let them know I will be available to start training the 26th of November.
(But if they don't have a female trainer available I'll have to wait.)
So that's where I'm standing now. Anyone want to help my with my list of what to buy and what to pack??
I have a bag of canned soups, crackers, snacks and instant oatmeal and coffee to get me through the first week of training on the range and packed a second bag of stuff for when I go on the truck with a trainer, ( bedding, warm cloths and additional food items to get me by a few days in case we don't get to a store right away.... I also have a Box I will leave at home which I am filling up with stuff I'll need when I go solo..
(CB radio, Satellite radio, porta-potty, laminated truckers road atlas, Safety regulations book, Truck Stops book, hot water pot, crock pot and a lunch box cooker, electric cooler and a Bucket with emergency food etc..)
I like to prepare ahead of time. I know I won't have a lot of time to shop when I go from trainer to Solo so I'm doing all I can now while I'm between jobs.
What tools of my own should I buy besides a 5 lb.sledge hammer and tire pressure gauge?
And should the hammer be steel or rubber?
Thanks in advance!

Knight will never put APU's on their trucks. It is not cost effective to them because they only keep the truck for 5 years. They still have the in cab bunk heaters.
