why don't you match and commit yourself to the loads you want?
-
I thought my coordinator could handle it. Apparently I was wrong. But the problem is that I wasn't being matched to loads that I could haul. There's no telling how many loads I missed.

Blind Driver
I think Skateboard is asking why you didn't take more initive and commit yourself to these loads you think you missed out on. Here at Mercer is the big leagues. Nobody holds your hand. The coodinators are there to help, not run the truck. Though there is a few that like to run the truck like Brad.
Kinda like having your own authority cause one has to watch the load board and grab loads and go.
Maybe you don't understand, you can commit on a load without your coodinator. Most of the loads I get, I've grabed up.
Try to think that he's not your dispatcher but someone to help with phone calls. -
If you want to make money over here you can't rely on these coordinators. I have what is supposed to be one of the best coordinators at Mercer, I will get on the load board and see he has refused me on a load that I would like to haul, I will commit to it and he calls and asks me if I really want that load. I say yes, I commited to it didn't I, why didn't you call me on it? Moral of the story is you have got to be proactive and take care of business yourself, don't expect someone in an office that is paid the same salary or hourly wage to make you succesful, they have no incentive to do anything other than show up to work on time. It wouldn't bother me one bit if Mercer let go of everyone of the corrdinators and gave the truck a higher percentage to completely fend for themselves.

That's what I was doing. Trying to get him to line up the loads for me that I have found that I wasn't matched to and ones that were obviously available that have been on the board for a week before I arrived. I don't always have time to babysit the loadboard like skateboardman's wife does. If I am being matched properly to the loads, then I should get a phone call. There are some coordinators that can run the truck without the contractor doing anything and make great money doing it. I think I have found about 30% of my loads on my own that I wasn't matched to.
Not being matched to a load, means I will never get the phone call.
My contractor needs his own coordinator sitting in his office dispatching his trucks, but Mercer won't let him do that for whatever strange reason.
I was talking to a longtime Mercer guy Friday evening and he mentioned a buddy of his gets a notification on his phone when he gets matched to a load. I'm thinking he must have meant a LS buddy of his, not a Mercer contractor.Last edited: Jun 2, 2013

I see many loads that my coordinator has refused. Either due to poor rate or due to the pick up date being inconvenient. Never have I noticed a load that I would have hauled.
I have also heard of trucks being run hard, then there's nothing. Something about the coordinators not getting a kickback

I look at the board often myself, I just happen to have a wife who can check it to, but it will help if you match yourself, commit yourself to loads on your own. the loads aren't truly matched by the coordinator, it is done by the computer following the parameters entered in by the coordinator, I will ask almost everyday what my deadhead and such is set at. most times I have the coordinator looking at 200 miles and under deadhead , while I have loadboard set to 500 mile. and something else to remember, say you are unloading on the 3rd, set your date on the laptop board at the 2d, if you don't you will miss loads that will pick up on either the 2d or the 3rd. they will only show up on the load board for the first day of pickup.
you would be surprised at the loads you will miss that way -
sounds like you might have your paramaters set wrong. Might want to check on that.

WOW! I'm actually getting calls from my new coordinator and agents trying to keep my preplanned.
'Bout time
