Truck Washing

That's because too many truck drivers thought the fuel island was their own personal truck wash...blocking the fuel pump for far too long when others were waiting to fuel up. Not only that, but the EPA I'm sure got involved in some areas due to the oil/grease/road grime/etc. not to mention the fuel that has been spilled all running into the storm drains right along with all of that water being used to "wash" the truck.

There is another local do-it-yourself carwash place at a smaller truck stop and I once asked them why they don't have a hose on the exterior for larger trucks....and they explained the EPA requirements they'd have to comply with in order to do that....and it was just too expensive for them to even consider.

The Savaway T/S on I-65 in Alabama at the 164 has soap buckets, brushes, and hoses on the fuel island. I always give my grill and windshield a good scrub when passing through the area. Right before pulling forward and going inside to drop a $20 in the store on ruffage for the fridge.

 

Those buckets w/ soapy water are to clean your windows and mirrors....NOT to wash your truck! The fuel island is NOT a truck wash! Those brushes, etc. are not meant to clean your grille or any other part of the truck that isn't glass. Windows & mirrors and that's it. When you use them to "wash" other parts of your truck, you contaminate the water and brushes with whatever grease and grime you are washing off...and the next guy gets that crap on his windows and mirrors.

 

Lot of places have stopped the TRUCK WASHING as the cost of water has gone up along with a lot of municipalities now tack on a sewage charge of up to 50% of their water bills. FREE WATER gets costly.

 

I seem to recall a sign there telling drivers to "limit their TRUCK WASHING" to a certain amount of minutes. Do you know for sure what it says? What exactly is the difference between grime on the grill and grime on the windshield? Does it come from different places?

 

I watched a guy the other day spend a full 45 mins. Washing his entire truck with the windsheild squeegee at the fuel island...

 

They couldn't negotiate a new lease with the T/A. so they shut it down, and moved employees to the 2 at Lake Station.

 

you will do that ONE time and never again

unless you have a show truck or something, its a lot easier to pay the $30-$40

plus, you will almost spend that much in detergent, rags, etc
