Student doesn't listen? Hard head? Doesn't follow instructions? Drop him off at the closest terminal. Keep a record of all the insidents. If you still want to keep him, remember, repetition is the mother of all skill. Your gonna have to sit in the front with him and keep repeating the same instructions, untill it becomes automatic for him.

Upstate NY, headed to VA - empty.
    A 600 mile deadhead.

Funny thing is, it is not a DH load. It has a regular trip number with the same location for both pu and del.
In the comments section of the destination it says to deadhead to Richmond, VA area for my next load - but the load assignment has me going to Covington, which is nowhere near Richmond.

When I get to Covington tomorrow evening I'll be nearly out of hours, and I don't know of any truck stops nearby.
Maybe a Wally World or something.

dont know what highway your taking but there are some rest areas near Covington, couple off the 81 etc, I have a pocket truck stop guide I use when i need to find a place ahead, or there is the navi on the qualcomm choose something along the way.

Anyway stopped for the night at a rest stop in Winslow Arizona, took the very last truck spot in the over parking area. I didnt even get my load finally until 6 last night, ohwell I have 2 more days to do a little over 900 miles.

I was up in SeaTac for almost 2 days trying to get a load home. Slim pickins. Sumner terminal manager (come to find out) got involved and asked me to cover a local heavy haul reefer load which I did. When I returned to the terminal, my next load was supposed to have been there tcalled by another driver so I could then tcall it at home terminal. The system auto dispatched me to go get the load in Canada, I protested that I had not sent a macro 9. I had them void the load and was prepared to bobtail the 800 miles back home. I didn't need to leave just then, I thought to give the system another 10 hours to see if any loads shook out.

I gotta say a special thank you to the staff in Sumner, whose primary job is to service regional heavy haul, for taking care of an OTR driver who was just trying to get a load home. They came through in fine fashion, the load would have put me about a half day late for home, many negotiations and tribulations with the exwife, I could accept that load. I asked for a tcall at Lathrop expecting to be laughed at, this was also set up for me.

I have renewed faith in the Swift system. The last 6 months have been very trying for me starting with a service failure they put on me even though the customer was closed and another when the freeway was shut down due to a big rig accident causing me to be late by 52 minutes mac 22 notwithstanding. The coup de grace was being told while off duty to report for a drug test facility 56 miles away that was due to close in a couple of hours that I had just 60 minutes to get there or it would be recorded as a drug test refusal per FMCSR Part 40.191. I think the 'reasonable time' clause was violated but could not afford to be put out of service for an extended time trying to clear my name, so just succumbed to what I feel was harassment and punishment for being too picky with loads.

Long story short, the people at Swift can bend over backwards to help you if you help them but they also have their ways to get you to do their bidding, or else....
