Wasnt sure where to put this. If not here let me know where the mods move it.
Anyway,..
I was at the Pilot off 94 a little ways before Gary In. Had a delivery in Glenview Il the next morning so I decided to park at the Pilot while they still had spaces open.
I went to sleep with the motor idling so I could run the AC. I ALWAYS lock my doors. I love it when DOT reaches for my door and its locked. Then I roll my window down just enough to hear him ask to see my books and paperwork, aggravated because I locked my door.
I woke the next morning to find both overhead cabinets open, my wallet sitting on the driver seat opened and the drivers door closed just enough so the dome lights were out, but not clicked shut. I'm assuming this was another driver as they did not take my whole wallet. They left my credit cards, fuel cards, license etc,.. didnt touch any of that. Left my $400 GPS and left my new Samsung S4 on the passenger seat alone. Just grabbed my receipts and $4 in cash from inside my wallet. I never keep more than $20 in my wallet for this very reason. I hide the rest else where in the cab.
Just really urked me that someone unlocked my door and rummaged through my truck while I was sleeping. I am a hard sleeper. I can park next to rail road tracks with freight trains running all night and still sleep like a baby. But I am a pretty large guy at 6'1 275lbs. Had I woke and caught him/her in my truck there is no telling what I would have done. It would not have been pretty.
Anyone else ever have this happen? The balls these thieve have to come into your rig like that. I mean what if I was a light sleeper and was armed? Why not snatch my GPS? Thats worth at least $100 at a pawn shop. My phone I guess they were smart enough to know that could be located by GPS. But #### it man. Frustrated that I slept through it. Not sure if I am more angry with myself for not waking or them for coming in my cab like that.
I'm home now. I have a 110lb female Rotti thats coming back out on the road with me. I was always hesitant to bring her with me because she is very protective. Doesnt bark or growl. She just bites. I was always afraid if DOT pulled me in and wanted to rummage through my truck,.. if they would allow me to take her out and hold her. Else there is no way she would even let them near the door with out trying to bite a head off. After this incident I dont care. I wish I had her with me the other night. That thief would have gotten what he deserved.

That stuff happens. Those girls at the BP truckstop in Maxton, NC wrote the book on how to do that.
Make a chain lock, which hooks to both doors inside the cab. Neither door can be opened from the outside because each door is chained to the other from inside the cab.mitmaks, jahnneysazftw92, Busasamurai and 7 others Thank this. -
Most theives aren't brazen enough to break into an occupied truck. That crack money is well worth the risk of deadly force which would be more than justified in this case. Gary Indiana is just such a place as its one of the roughest neighborhoods in the USA. Your dog would have prevented that incident. Ive never traveled with a dog but i know many who have and do. Some dogs are trucking dogs and some just aren't. I've never been searched by law enforcement nor had one open my door. I've had a few step up on my running board, usually during a DUI checkpoint or something of that nature.

Never had DOT search my truck. Usually just ask for my books and paperwork and then the usual road side inspection routine. Just heard stories where DOT asked to climb inside and look around. Just worried because I dont want my dog shot because she bit an officer. She's usually ok, particularly around kids. For some reason she loves kids. But certain people she goes kujo over and if I am not there to hold her down she would chew them to pieces.
3 yrs ago she bit the guy checking my water meter in the back yard. I have signs posted that let folks know she will bite. But he was a new guy and opened the gate and came in anyway with out knocking on the front door first. She got hold of his arm just below the elbow and almost took it off. $18k in hospital bills I had to pay. He tried to sue me but jury denied his claim because I had the signs posted and he admitted to ignoring them.

Rather odd he did'nt take more then what he did.Why would he take your receipt 4 in cash but not the credit cards, gps and anything else of value.Bet if you look hard enough you'll find what is missing.I don't think this so called thief would have wasted his time unlocking your door,he would have tried another trk.Don't worry about your dog biting any officers. They're alittle smarter then that, they're going to ask you to take the dog out.
Giggles the Original Thanks this. -
I assume you are saying Exit 6?
They probably knocked and when they received no answer they proceeded. A crackhead has no scruples. They wanted cash, nothing with serial numbers or ID's in case they got caught. They probably had a master key or if you have a Freightshaker they are bad about one key fitting many trucks. The sad part is there is security there. I pulled in there one morning and the police were there. Someone smashed three truck windows on hometime and stole their CB's. You have to have some kahunas to do that with a bunch of truckers eyeballing a lot.
Like patty said don't worry about the dog. They'll have you remove him on a leash if they want access to your truck. Dogs work wonders. A gun will stop a confrontation, a dog will prevent it. Nobody would get in my truck with my little 20 lb dog. There is something about teeth, lol.
The door lock thing I would think about on the highway. If the inevitable happened you want rescue to have easy access. It might be the difference between life and death. The only time I locked my truck was when stopped or in a danger area. I did one time like you said I was told to pull around back and bring my paperwork in. I locked my doors and caught my logbook up. A few minutes later a young howdy doody DOT cop come out and jumped on my steps peaking in. "Whatcha doing"? I told him I was logging my change of duty status like I'm suppose to, lol. -
I locked myself out one time in Floriduh, in my Pete and guy next to me tried his key and sure enough it fit! I was back in my truck in two seconds.
