I have a couple questions regarding length and speed restrictions in Canada. First is the cost of a permit for a truck with a 260" wheelbase. Second is my truck isn't speed governed, will I be able to drive there with no problems since I'm from the U.S.? If not is there a way to drive without having to regulate it?

If going to Ont. or Quebuec, you need to get your trk. speed set to 65mph. Cost anywhere to 75 /100 dollars, depends on the shop.
As for wheel base limits you need to check with the province you are going to and see if you can run there. I got a 265 wheel base, but am running a 4 axle trk. So far no issues in Ont. Sk and Ab.

I've always heard that trucks registered in Ontario and Quebec must be set to 65 mph, but I get passed by Canadians out on I-40 in New Mexico and Arizona all the time while poking along at 66/67 ish.

I don't understand why even the mandatory regulation, isn't that what speed limits are for. I personally think speed limiters should be illegal. Ever try and pass a truck speed limited at 62 mph and you at 63? It takes forever to pass and traffic piles up behind you.

Inspectors stand beside the scale with a device to plug into your ECM to check your governed speed . American trucks are required to be governed at 65 m.p.h. .

Well they might check or might not, 390 bucks is the fine. Depending on where you are some will let you go and get it done then provide proof, and some will make you sit until someone comes out and sets it.

Well Canada"s a pretty big place, it's only Ontario and Qeerbec that has the limiter law. That's like saying don't go to the U.S cuz California sucks.

i've ran Canada for over a year and gone though all of the scales on the QEW and the 401/403 between the QEW and the Landsdowne border crossing, and have never been asked about my speed.

it's one of those deals like the speed limit, it's there, you're supposed to do it, but hey, if ya don't get caught, then to 'ell with it.
