telling one on myself

Here's a funny story that happened to me just a few days ago. I am telling one on myself, but even I had to laugh at myself this time.

I pull bulk tankers. Either plastic pellets or PVC powders. Generally you end up at the back of some plant with no one else around. Biggest part of the time they sign the bills, say "lock up when you're done" and you never see them again.

So, I have started unloading my trailer and it is COLD (this was in Youngsville, NC) and I am just standing there keeping an eye on pressures,etc. I notice that there is a patch of ice about 6 ft X maybe 4 feet there beside me. So I do what any bored driver would do. I have to test it.

So I step out onto the ice and it holds me no problem. Well, I guess that I got less infatuated with the ice once I knew it would hold me. So, still standing on the ice I direct my attention to a yellow pole in front of me, also covered with ice. It's one of those fender killer yellow poles.

I have a rubber mallet in my hand...hmmm....ice on a pole....I know!! Let's smack the ice with the mallet. Let the mayem begin.

I smack the ice on the pole with the mallet, the water from under the ice flies up and hits me in the face, causing me to jump. This in turn causes the ice under my feet to break and I go through. The water is deep enough to fill my boots with icy cold water. Have you ever considered how much more your feet weigh with boots full of water? I ended up busting my rear and falling in the water. I ended up having to completely change clothes, but even I ended up getting up and just laughing my butt off.

I could hear my Dad telling me "You just have to mess with stuff don't you!"

That's my little story. I though it was funny and thought somebody else might get a kick out of it. Enjoy.
