As long as it keeps the produce at temp I don't see what would matter. You may get mean looks from other drivers if your reefer is super loud tho...lol
-
May depend on customer, on dry van side I've had shippers say no trailers over 10 years old.
-
Yes the trailer would need to be in good shape. I almost was turned away due to bad floor once and they wished they had when the looked and seen where I was leaking fuel backing in. Good old junk truck I was driving Cabover

As long as the truck and trailer meet and pass all DOT standards you can use it.
Some companies have maximum ages on equipment.
If you are an independent then you may worry about higher operating cost of older equipment, like breakdowns and higher insurance rates.
If you have a 6 month old trailer and it is damaged than a customer will not load you.
If you have a 1995 trailer and it is in great shape the shipper most likely never ask.
Now tankers are a whole different story, as customers & broker will ask about age of your equipment.
No matter what if you have 1-2 breakdowns that cost you or your broker a load or even a customer, you might be out of business before you really even get started. Because brokers and customers do talk to one another about this stuff.Last edited: Jul 23, 2013
