I have read many threads where drivers have said that Team driving pays much better than solo. So, since it appears that most people (on this forum) seem to HATE OTR trucking in general, for many good reasons... how much better is the pay as a team driver? I want to get my 1st year of experience to help me get a high paying local job in the future. The way I see it, if it's gonna be a nightmare, I may as well make as much money as possible, right? So...how much more money do team drivers make (each) than a solo driver (in general)?

P.S. I know there are pros and cons to both, but I'm just curious about the MONEY!!!

Actually...on second thought, I'd like to hear about ALL the pros and cons (not just money) of solo vs team driving from some of you experienced drivers. Thank you :)

Usually, a team driver will make a little more money because you're being paid milage even while you're sleeping. Even though it's reduced amount, you're still getting more miles than you would as a solo. Teams usually get the longer mile runs because the truck doesn't have to take those pesky 10 hr. breaks.

Ideally, if you can team on expedite or something coast-to-coast time sensitive freight such as produce you make great money. Another is just-in-time auto parts runs, for example auto parts from the Mexican border to Michigan auto plants.

I teamed a couple of months just as a favor to the hazmat/tanker company and my pay didn't really change that much, but was more. It was temperature sensitive acid that had to be extremely hot at delivery, in the dead of winter, hauling it from the East Coast to the West Coast & Northwest. It was a challenge even with in-transit heat connected, but we were able to keep the loads within 5 degrees of requested delivery temp. even with older trailers.

Teaming is a scam I just ask at my company Swift they said it was ..32 split and im making anywhere from .32-.42 now depending on miles on the load ya you run more miles my DM said his teams where running 5k a wk ok thats $800 a wk Im making $1000-$1200 a wk now everywk except my Hometime wk once a month.

Thats just my 2cents the compays should pay you your payrate these trucks are making 2x what a solo driver can do but they scam the drivers.

Coming from someone who's only looked into Team Driving, I don't think I'd do it for less than 40 CPM. If you can get on with USX Shaffer or a few of the other starters that offer 48 CPM to teams, that ought be good money. Just a student, but that's my opinion, lol.

Correct. Our company pays .55cpm solo, and .64cpm team. Can be a challenge finding a good partner, your lives depend on each other. My wife is a good driver, but there's only one other guy I'd drive with (15+ years experience).

And that's .64cpm EACH - not split. 3000 miles each times .64 =$1,920 a week each, before taxes. Many get confused with this issue.

    .64 per ? Very rare..

5500 miles per week is common.. that's 2750 per driver.. so to speak.. compatibility is the key

I think the biggest factor of running team is do you trust the other guy/girl with your life and can you stand to be around them pretty much 24-7?
