Have a 1999 Carrier ultra fresh 2. The unit shut off after a few mins the display screen says high pressure. Last time the mechanic said it was low on refrigerant. just wondering if that sounds correct. These guys charge a fortune just want make shore I am not getting taken for ride.

That's a no from the refrigeration stand point. System is obviously protected by a HP switch as most are......

Some reasons for high pressure drop out in refrigeration......

    Too much freon,
    Bad / plugged condenser
Bad / plugged drier / accumulator
    Too much oil
    Bad switch / sensor

    Need guages to tell wassup.

If it were low on freon then coil temp would be too low and thermostat would cut out comp to allow coil to thaw. You didn't say...is it simply cutting off or is it switching to defrost?

The unit just shutting of completely. I figure that something had to be funny with it coming up high pressure.

My '05 Ultra XTC was doing that about 2 months ago. It was a broken condenser fan shroud along with an overdue condenser washout. Get up on a ladder and check for condenser airflow issues for free before you do anything else.

If you post your location, someone might have a referral to a better shop if it comes to that.

There you go...what Red said....a plugged condenser ( no air flow ) would net the same results of high pressure drop out.

Let us know what you find.......

Had to bring it to the shop. They found a leak under Suction Service Valve. also the brucket the hold the low pressure line was worn out. unfortunately they charged me a fortune to charge the system. going to order some gauges so I can fix it my self next time. ON a side note my other reefer trailer started shutting off wound up being a the fan belt not as hard to change as these mechanics make it out to be.
