[h=2]I posted this in the OO thread, but thought it might be more applicable here. I'm wondering if anyone here has used a mobile dispatch system/app instead of calling the dispatcher for load info and pickup/delivery confirmation. Thought this might be useful for LTL where you are on the phone with the dispatcher a lot. If you do use one, which one?[/h]

We just use email. Easy fast and has the required trail.

Cut and paste the section for the week and it's done.

And being able to plan the week in advance lets you use the HOS to the max.

Turtles, How do you update the dispatcher to confirm if a load was delivered or picked up?

Most terminals have a phone for us to use to call our dispatch when the terminal is closed. When their isnt one available we get paid to use our personal phones, but on weekends I have it free anyways so it doesnt affect me. During the week we dont need to call unless we go to the rail yard

Email. You call if you're going to be late.

Otherwise you email the info. On delivery you can scan and attach a pdf of the bills. Outlook will sort and file the attachments and emails to make it easier to read.

The end game is to automate the system so it runs without needing constant attention. Drivers that require constant attention disappear.

I cc everthing to evernote which I use as a fast searchable database.

Don't want to hijack the thread, but on the subject of dispatchers, do any of your carriers have centralized dispatchers for your line drivers? Our carrier is all centralized and we pretty much run a call centre. I for one never met any of my dispatchers.

When I worked for CWF we always dispatched ourselves through a computer. During the week if any problems came up we normally call our home terminal, unless its closed then we called a central. WHen we were arrived at a terminal they would arrive us, when the terminal was closed he had to punch it in the computer.

Here at YRC on weekends if we go to a end of line terminal, if we dont know what we are getting we call back to dispatch and they tell us, sometimes they tell you before you leave and just hook when we get there. Some dispatchers ask what time you got there, others just ask you how much time for the hook, then send you on your way.
