there is a thread about it somewhere on questions from new truckers forum. it is possible. but a couple of things. your choices of companies are not all that rich, even compared to choices for new otr drivers. another thing is that your deliveries are a lot more often in town, so you'll be doing a lot of city driving, a lot of odd docks. if you feel strong, you can of course go. otherwise, look for a company that runs two-three days out then home kinda deal. you'll get more freeway driving and still be close to home. maybe some smaller companies. do look for that thread i've mentioned. some kind soul actually listed local companies who hire new drivers in his post.
good luck and be safeCowboykurt Thanks this. -

I got a local LTL job right out of CDL school. They pay me almost double as what some of the OTR starter companies were offering me. Your ability to get a local job will be based on where you live. If you have a lot of LTL carriers in your area, I recommend to start knocking on some doors. My carrier currently has a shortage on drivers and is really really really hurting for bodies.
Good luck!Cowboykurt Thanks this. -
