All of the rail trailers I have seen have been 48s, these were the only 48 foot boxes I have pulled recently, and that was in 2009.

I never unloaded or loaded the swinging loads I pulled.

I forgot to mention one other drawback of the rail trailer. About 10 years ago I had a back haul of boxed goods delivering to a prison in Illinois. Before I could go inside the facility, I had to crawl back and forth over the load several times carrying meat hooks out of the trailer. Guess they didn't want those in the hands of convicts. A guard was very nice and threw them back in the trailer to me as I hung them again after I was unloaded though.

I pulled one load of swinging meat for FFE once and it was a special run. Will never do it again. Its something that will keep you on the edge of your seat at all times because it drives worse than pulling a tank IMHO. To dangerous. Thats why not many do it any more. The center of gravity on those loads will definitely give you another fear factor you never thought about when driving through places like St Louis.

Swinging meat is fun, once you realize what you can and can not do when hauling it.
When I hauled swinging back in the mid 80's I never had to unld. it. No putting on pallets or restacking it. Just left a 6 pack in the front for the guys to enjoy when they got the trl. mty.
The worst part of it was hauling it in a eplex sided trl. Those trls. have no side wall support. Lane changes and curves would flip you iin a hurry if you took the turn to fast.
    #### near layed one over because I came into a curve too fast and was up in the ozone so to speak back in those days.
Never hit the brakes in a curve, That will flip you in a heart beat

God Bless You. Just a swin:biggrin_2559:gin'. Make sure it's tight. Before the load leaves the dock walk in and make sure!
Don't get lazy, those dock monkeys don't have to drive it there! If it ain't tight, it ain't right. Just a swingin':biggrin_2559:

You work out of Dakota City? We probably crossed paths if you been there between 2008-2010. I can't count the loads I picked up there and fueled at Crystals.

I pulled some swinging loads for Great Western/Lisa/FFE a fews times into Chicago and the thing I hated was rehanging all the hooks after washout. After a while you get to the point the motion doesnt bother you but at first it can be a little bothersome.
