This is why we older hands argue that hauling perishables with a unit is not as simple as it seems. IT HAS TO BE CHECKED AND MONITORED. Some newer drivers argued that all this new technology was fool - proof, you could set it and forget it. Wrong answer.
Newer drivers have enough to worry about without having to be responsible for keeping a unit working correctly.

Dont take this wrong but it sounds like you guys are being cheap trying to save a dollar on your monthly payment so you got high deductibles. I have 2 trailers and they both have 1k deductibles on reefer breakdown. I dont know or think there is a norm but 2500 plus what it cost to repair yo unit makes for a very expensive day. I would try and get that down some. I live in atlanta by the way.

You are correct insurance has been going up. I just renewed mine. I have the same eqpt with northland insurance all the bells and whistles. I pay 800 a month. Like i said i am not trying to offend you. My buddy has 3 of each and pays 1500 a month. I do know rates differ by state so i guess that accounts for the big difference.

If they don't want it, a rendering plant might, Your local animal shelter might be able to tell you where.

In restaurant type businesses where meat is kept, 41* is the maximum high for storing meat in a cooler. It should be the same standard for reefers also.
