    We will see... they shut down one of the many companies called Covenant...400 trucks and they killed the company.

    The CEO of my company actually let the F-bomb drop when he said he didnt care if we lose customers, just get the CSA score down... and we have almost 10,000 trucks!
    So apparently they really are afraid of it... and the companies who get in trouble seem to lose a lot of profit.... maybe thats what they care about the most.

    Oh really,this is the first I heard covenant shut down.Many of the smaller ones have closed due to poor profit or fmcsa.But whats sad is they get too many chances

    As a new contract driver (one who had CRST pay for your CDL training) your starting cpm is $.22. You are not splitting that $.22 between you and your co-driver. The only thing that you split with your co-driver is the total miles driven.

    Starting month 4 your pay goes up to $.23/mile and starting month 7 your pay increases to $.31/mile.

    I have looked at quite a few companies and there pay scales for starting out with them paying for my CDL class and they all are pretty much the same cpm for the first year.

    Yes some show you starting out at higher cpm's but then that deduct so much each week for your cost of school, but ticket, and any housing they may have put you up in. If you do the math, you are basically getting the same $.22/mile.

    It really isn't until the end of your first year that you start really making more money. Most of those training companies have you finishing your first year at $.31/mile.

    As for good and bad about a company, they all have nasty skeletons in the closet. There is no perfect company. It's about what works best for you and fits your needs.

    I am looking forward to starting tomorrow with CRST. YES they were many second choice, but Stevens Transport were being dicks about clearing my medical even though all my doctors signed off and cleared me. Stevens wanted my medical records from an ER visit that happened 15 years ago. It had no relevance to me being cleared to drive. Just there in house doctor being an ###. Plus there local recruiter here wouldn't return a phone call or email. They were pretty simple questions. Not like I was asking for nuclear launch codes, lol.

    Anyways, the first year is really about getting that experience and you pay for that one way or another with each training company.

    Congrats and good luck. I start my training tomorrow at Kirkwood Community College here in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

    thank you for braking it down.So why does the payscale page say 23 cpm split?If I knew how to post it I would.But I don't have a clue how.

    Don't buy into that "stay one year and move on to a better company" bologna! That's the speech of a lazy and unmotivated driver. Get your CDL and let the applications fly while you're driving for CRST! Good jobs are out there for rookies! What it boils down to is how hard are you willing to work to land one? I know many drivers who landed great jobs with no experience! It's your career, take charge of it!


    P.S. Don't let them scare you with the DAC crap either. DAC ain't ####!

    I understand what you mean. I was just as confused with there wording as well. Here is the pay scale page out of the Information packet my recruiter emailed me. The packet itself is 24 pages long.

    When they talk about split mile pay, what they are talking about is you and your co-driver split the total number of miles that was driven as a team each week. If you look closely at the pay scale I just put posted and do the math, you'll notice that 4,000 miles @ $.22/mile does not equal $440 like it shows it does., it would equal $880. The $440 is your gross pay.

    Whoever put their packet together didn't know what they were doing or how to explain the math so it actually made sense to someone just glancing at it.

    I hope this helps. If you have any questions, let me know. I am the type of person who likes to plan things out and have literally done a 5 year projection with CRST based off their numbers so I could make a budget and set realistic expectations while I am there.

    CRST Expedited Pay


    On the following page is a table of when and how you are paid as a CRST Expedited driver. Please note that while you are driving for CRST Expedited, you will split the miles, but not the pay. Also, all pay listed is “Gross Pay” which means before taxes.

    Student Drivers and Recent Graduates- Contract and Non-contract students are paid $0.22/mile (split mile pay) and they will be paid twice per week on Tuesday and Thursday depending upon when the loads are delivered.

    Sorry you feel that someone staying a year and the move on to a better company is the way of a lazy and unmotivated driver. I actually think it sounds like a very well motivated driver who is strategic about their moves.

    On the other hand, telling new drivers that there DAC doesn't mean anything and don't worry about what someone puts on it, sounds like a lazy and unmotivated driver. The DAC from my understanding is your resume for truck driving and it has the same impact on your truck driving career as your credit report has on your ability to borrow money. If it is full of job jumping and bad reports, you are less likely to get a good job someplace else.

    $1290.00 a week after 6 years? You've got to be kidding right? Is it really that low for all they do and all the hours they work?

    I think you misunderstood what I was saying about staying a year with a starter company. What I meant was why stay a year with a company that pays #### wages and uses a driver when they don't have to. It just gets old reading post after post telling these new drivers that they have to stay a year when in fact that isn't true. Sure, a lot of good companies want a year of experience but not all of them.

    As far as a DAC file, my opinion stands. To me it doesn't mean crap. Any company worth working for will take anything on a DAC report with a grain of salt as many companies get bitter and mark them up. If a company wants to judge my eligibility for hire by a piece of paper I won't work for them.
