I agree with you 100%... That being said, this is just to prepare you for many of the truckstops...

In a previous life, I was a firefighter. I was assigned to a newly built station house in the 'burbs and I've never forgotten the grizzled old fire captain's first counsel to me: After your first release, flush. Don't worry; we pay the water bill every month. The plumbing and your fire buddies will thank you for it.

Yeah, I posted about it then edited it because it was perilously close to whining. I drove across the GWB one week to the day after passing my road skills test in Dallas, following my trainers written direction after the NYC talk, took the wrong fork at the combover exit, was working to get back on 95 from University, and took the turn on the onramp too tight in order to miss the Chevy Traverse that was feelin froggy. The tire got cut all to hell on the curb and the hub blew out. Managed to hobble to hunts point, make delivery, get repaired and gtfo...luckily my trainer felt it would be wise to drive out himself instead of having me do it.

Have many things to say bout it, none good, none productive so i chalked it up to experience

Sad thing about this is when we picked up the trailer from Tyson, we had to replace five of the eight tires. So including the curb, six new tires on that trailer. After all we'd gone thru I was kinda nostalgic when we parked it at taylor farms two weeks later. If you happen to pull 9813, give her a pat for me. all in all shes a good sport. Eats tires, but a good pull.

Question for you Alliance operators and others: Is the T700 reliable and "worth it" from a cost/benefit standpoint? How so? How not? I'm currently parked between two of Stevens's T700's; mighty pretty machines and I have heard varying answers, so I'm coming to the source!

If that's the worst of your, um, "encounters" count your blessings. It didn't involve another car or human or a tow truck.

The T-700 is a great machine. It's the engine that sucks!
Seriously, the T-700 came out in 2011 when the new engines came out. There were so many problems with these engines you can't count them. Either they worked or they didn't. If you got a good one, then life is good.
Most were not good. Cummins improved them as time went on and as it looks now, they're doing pretty good.
But the T-700 is being replaced by the T-680...again, a better improvement for function.
Stevens did not order T-700's with the Detroit engine. Something about an agreement somewhere. We did order Freightliners with the DD-15 engine and they've been very dependable.
The competition from the DD series engines forced Cummins to improve their engines and now we're seeing the T-680 doing very well. We are having very few of the old problems (all related to the exhaust componets), the fuel mileage is great (common for drivers to see 8+mpg) and breakdowns are far, far less.
So the short answer is: The T-700 was an improvement to the T-2000 and the T-680 is an improvement to the T-700.
You just have to watch the engine!

    DenaliDad Thanks this.
