Rates for reefers vary by location, season, commodity, destination etc.. it is ALL relevant. I have some guys that are getting $4.+ for shorter hauls in the South East, but my long haul guys are getting about $2.25-$2.75 for runs from Nor. Cal. to The South East.. and $2.10-$2.25 on the backhaul. Rates will change by the week, day if not hour if you are hauling produce.. When looking at your rates, you need to keep in mind the law of averages.. if you are getting $3+ to get into an area.. you can afford the cheaper freight coming out.. IF you can average over $2. PM just don't go very far on that cheaper freight. Get out and then head to a better locale. I know of some guys that would deadhead out of Denver last winter to get another load out of Seattle.. I just shook my head.. but to each his own. I would say an average of $2. PM is very, very doable and rather easy to do if you know how to move your truck around.

As far as Florida goes.. ugh... if you can't get any good paying freight, which is not uncommon.. you could always haul dry and from my experience dry freight is paying about the same as reefer freight often times out of Florida. That state is known for poor freight.. plain and simple.

Man i can't break that $2 on ALL miles. Averaging around 1.80, but that's working just off of loadboards Any pointers on how to get that $2 "easy" lanes etc...?

you guys are cheap as hell!!!!!!!! i charge around $3mile on the low side to $4mile high side. SAY NO TO CHEAP FREIGHT!!!!!!!! My runs average around 400-500miles i start at 1600-2000 then work my deadhead in that rate. I always get deadhead throw in every load dont work like you need it cuz i never do. When they ask where you wanna go say where the money is at. Work a triangle run meaning stay above $3mi on every mi last run take it somewhat cheaper but goin where you wanna go.Get as much as you can on the first two legs. Example 1st run 500 miles 50 miles deadhead tell them i got a truck for 2200 and i dont care if its a good area or not i never let them know that,2 run different 3pl,logistics,broker 500miles 100 miles deadhead needs it there now ok i can charge you start at 2400 work down to about 2200,3rd run right on top of it goin toward house or where you get retrun load home paying good $2.5 mile 500miles same town or 50miles away. Never Haul cheap once you start its hard to get high rates im an agent as well and i know once you haul cheap they always call you first as they know you will take it.
