The safety department showed me fueling in the middle of 10 hr break, 300 miles from where I was. They edited my logs to reflect the fueling and put me in violation of my 70 for 3-4 days because I was running off recap. The warning I had to sign just stated the dates and the violations. It also stated that if I violated my HOS within a certain length of time I could be terminated. I had to physically go into the safety dept. in WVC to get an explanation. Then down to fuel and permits to track down a fuel receipt that didn't record the correct time I fueled because the Pilots computer was down. Once I proved I wasn't in violation, safety fixed it. It only took a month.

There are just to many drivers wearing ''rose colored glasses'' to see the truth.

One thing to always remember...if "you" or the "company" edits an elog, whoever actually completed the edit is documented and saved as part of the log report. As long as nothing happens it will probably never cause a problem, but; if something bad happens such as a "family killing" wreck...all of the edit records will more than likely be subpoenaed. The right thing to do as a proffesional driver is follow the DOT regulations as written, if the company is that type of company you might what to reconsider working there!!! At the end of the day, YOU need to be able to sleep at night with a clear concious!!!

on qual com elogs, there is a button that says approve.
once pushed, NO one can edit you logs. Not even safety.
By hitting approve, this is your valid electronic signature, saying yes the info on that log is correct and truthful.
Now before you hit approve, as your going over your daily log, you may find a mistake, you can then use the eidti button to go back and adjust something, ie: you ment to show you went into sleeper, when you actually hit went off duty.
Once you correct that, you make a note, of what happened.
    Then you can hit approve.

It is true, once you "approve" your log YOU can not edit it, but your company still has the ability to edit the log. Lets say if you accidently approve a log and then you realize you approved 34 hours of "on-duty" time instead of "off duty" time and you do not complete a 34 hour break, your company has the ability to change that status.

Technically, both the driver and company should be on the same page about any edits. The edits should never be used to gain an advantage (CHEAT) for the driver or company, but will be neccesary to occaisionally correct legitimate mistakes. Again, if your company is making changes without you knowledge you might need to reconsider your employment decision!!!

I approve my logs after every change of duty status but sometimes when I go to approve the status that just changed I see about 10 hours worth of status changes needing to be re-approved. I then have to go back to the graph tab and see if I agree to the times and statuses from the past few hours. At this point too, even though I had approved the logs once, it seems to be giving me an opportunity to go back and edit stuff like that 30 minute pretrip I log every day that the company seems to be saying "hello, we are giving you a gift here....but we can't officially tell you that"

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think you can only approve the elog once a day, not individual status changes. By approving the log you are "signing" the log saying it is true and accurate for that day. If you are using paper logs and get stopped for a DOT inspection and your paper log is signed before the log is complete you could actaully be subject to a violation, because "technically" it shouldnt be signed until your day is done!!!

Back in the infancy of E-Logs, the Big Blue Screw could change your hours. I remember a few times that my 70 would increase by the exact number of hours I needed to make delivery. "That's odd. I didn't have those hours yesterday..."
