I would appreciate some input from some of you. I have been away from trucking for 9 years. The first company I drove for was Schneider, (Wal Mart dedicated) and I was with them for 13 months. I have never worked for a more abusive organization in my life!! After that I drove for Maverick for about 6 months. The difference was like night and day! Maverick is not perfect, but I was never lied too, and they are very respectful of the drivers. Yeah, securing loads and tarping is hard work, but I would rather do that than be abused on a no touch freight account!
Here is my problem. In addition to being away from trucking for 9 years, I resigned Maverick after an accident. I rear ended a car, yep they stopped #### fast, but there is no way it was not my fault. Simple as that! I did not know if I was going to be terminated, but I had just received a job offer outside of trucking. So, I took the offer and resigned. Since Maverick is now training, I figured that maybe after this many years, they might take me back as a trainee. I spoke with a Maverick recruiter and he said I am not eligible for rehire, but would be if I got a safe year in with another carrier.
My question is does anyone know of a company that might possibly take me, considering a 9 year absence from driving and the accident?? I really do not want to do van or reefer because of the nightmares at grocery warehouses. Flat bedding is my thing. I have my eye on TMC, and am considering talking to a recruiter. I still have my CDL.
Your input would be appreciated!
Thank You in advance!
PS, Maverick really is a good company based on my experience with them. I can say that they never lied to me, and were very reasonable and respectful.

Do you really want to go back to being OTR driver???..believe me..its not what it used to be..simply put,OTR is !@#$%&*()@#$$!@# and @#!$%^%$%#@!..just trying to warn you..i would try to find something local...the key is to find an area of trucking where companies are desperate for drivers..and yes,you may have to go back to school..just saying...
FEELTHEWHEEL Thanks this. -
OTR for Schneider was no bag of gravy when I was doing it in 03 and 04? I went to work for Maverick and it was MUCH better. I have not driven in 9 years, so I am not gonna get a good day cab job. -
My goal is to find a GOOD flatbed company, then stick it out for a minimum of 3 solid years. I don't want to job hop, which is why I want to find a GOOD company the first time, if that is possible.

the only thing you would have to do is probably is train for couple wks. as far as your accident that was 9 years ago its now where on your csa. you will be able to say no for accidents because most companies go back 3-5years on accidents. and on application check no if they can contact past employer. but u should be ok!!

Can't see a problem. Most of the TMC threads on here are pretty positive.
You're prepared to go through the whole 'refresher' and training deal again . . . ? -
Yes, I assume that they will treat me almost like a completely new driver. That is fine, it has been 9 years.
