can ya get one for a volvo or do you know? Did it help with mileage any at all?
-
The FASS systems are designed for any truck just few different fittings for hook up.
Actually my Fass system is the Airdog system by Pure Technogies in Mo. vs the FASS brand from Iowa 80 chrome shop.
There is a different thread on this very subject.
I like to think it helps and maybe it does. I average 7 mpg in winter and 7.5 in the summer. I'm told this is quite good for a 379 pete. -
Think Twice about the PP damper/balancer on a CAT. ( It's actually a Vibratech ) but you have to buy them through a dealer.)
Replaced mine @ 1million +/- waste of $ IMHO. Unless the damper has been physically damaged in some way (dent, fracture, leak) I cannot see anything that can go wrong.
I cut my original, (03) damper apart, NO DAMAGE OR ISSUES. It was totally good to go. $$ thrown away
The old damper I cut open was the OEM CAT. Stamped steel housing, machined inner "rotator", silicone oil/grease.
As the "salesman" suggested that the silicone oil will deteriorate inside a sealed housing, please explain Mr. Salesman.
Sorry for the rant/hijack. -
I wouldn't agree that it is a waste of money. Once the silicone deteriorates, the dampner stays locked and doesn't act as a shock for torque of the motor. If you think it does nothing, take it off listen to the engine knock. Really loud and bad.
Yes I purchased the Vibratech damper and the balancer to go with it.
Catapillar and most shops recommened the dampner be replaced every 500K and at every rebuild. I think 500k is little extreme but mine has 900k on it. So for ones like myself it is kinda insurance as I prepare to rebuild my motor in a couple months.
Without cutting it open, one can not tell if it is bad and that's kinda near getting bad and even then it may not shows signs but once it goes bad, it's only matter of short time before one breaks the crank.
Yes most get replaced quite early but preventive maintaince.
And the balancer- anything that helps to balance the engince torque is got to be helping everything internal on the motor. -
Thanks. I have my original damper on my '02 6nz. I have considered replacing it. But like they say," if it ain't broke , don't fix it."
So maybe I'll just leave it alone. -
I haven't cut my old dampner in half. Though it does look fine, I do not regret buying the vibratech/PP dampner. Difinitely bigger and heavier.
And putting the additional balancer on, helped the sound/smoothness of the motor in my opinion. -
Ok here's my first week, started on the 8th of Nov.Clarkville, Tn.,to Kelso, Wa. Landed there Tues unloaded that day, got another load same day, bounced to Malaga, Wa. Going to Phoenix, Az. (HOME). Got here on 15 th.
