finished the first week today up in Marshfield. Pretty intetesting and fun career so far. before coming here i never really new much about engines or mechanical stuff so i am trying to focus a lot on the pre trip stuff and verbage.

question: I am doing flatbed and i live in Northern Virginia. Will i get a chance to see places farther out west? i saw a few people saying think east of i-35 but is that for van? because i have seen flatbedders say they have been out west a bit.

in national fleet do you have the choice to stay out longer than 15-17 days? like if i have no family or obligations back "home" do drivers ever stay out 20+ days?

Thank you and thanks for all the imput on this forum!

If you go 48 Over The Road you will be fine to get out wast, be careful, there are means folks out here in the West! And some of them carry those things that everyone used to know as GUNS!. no Come on out here! The water is fine! Good luck!

Even flats don't go west as much as they used to, because they have the Phoenix terminal that does more of it now. You can stay out as long as you want. 36 or more days will get you 7 days off.

Even on flatbed, I've been told they won't send you out west until you have somewhere near a year of experience on the road. Especially during winter months. :)

Come to think of it, I don't see a lot of Roehl on 40 west of OKC . . .

Nah, we got a flatbed division terminal in Phoenix, they handle most of the stuff in the southwest.

Yea I don't think vans hardly ever go west, which is unfortunate, because that's the only part of the country I haven't seen yet.

I drive tanker (liquid smooth bore) and have been pretty much all over the place (including Canada). I can't speak for flat-beds but I have done reefer, box and bulk and they have all given me some time 'over yonder'.
About the 'mean guys with guns'... huh? Every guy I've ever met who believes in the Constitution has been a great person to know.
