I know you guys all pull steps and flats. More or less you don't know squat about van rates and are part of the reason ups/fedex get their freight moved consistently cheaper than some others this time of year. You can't very well take advantage of anything else if you don't have a van of your own or that's the only power only stuff you know of. I guess you guys don't get much in the way of haggling over rates? Are you guys not allowed to ever haul any outside freight? That would suck. You could make some great money in the right place at the right time off brokered freight, even if Mercer took 25% - would be a great way to supplement their own freight, if they would allow it.. Would you take an outside brokered load 1 pick 1 drop van load going 631 miles to Tulsa paying $2,100 after Mercer's $700 came off the top? I did a brokered load like that but my cut was $2,492. I couldn't work anywhere that didn't allow me to take advantage of freight like that had me locked in some kind of system. None of that matters though. What it always comes down to is what you keep when it's all said and done. Do you not agree? So regardless who covers what and whatever percentages are it comes down to that exact same conclusion. Apples to apples. Sort of like the guys who suspend their own authority because they KEEP MORE leased on somewhere....

rob, May I add, next time when in a good area don't get jumpy at the end of the day and just take what is there. get yourself a hot shower, a big meal and a full nights rest. others will take that less than ideal stuff while you move up the board and come morning you will be sitting pretty ready when the good loads start popping.

Your right spyder, that's exactly what I did. Ill learn with more experience. Thanks, rob.

and you forgot to add could care less about van rate, or do we even want to haul spot market loads etc. , in the long run it all works about to about the same. I know me and flightline at least have had our own authority , we both been there and done that.
see, I could care less what amount anyone else is getting or if something pays more, I know my exact cost of doing business and take loads that I am happy with, and once I take one , I never ever look at the load board at what could have been, when I take one I start looking for the next one.
I am happy with the system here, that's all that matters -
yeah, he means you got to get mercerized, I know you heard that from an old guy in the drivers room. then once you do that , all ya have to do is sit in your truck and talk to yourself every now and then about being to picky of your load choices.

I got what you are saying. I heard the rate and weight and I jumped on it. I will learn. By the way, would you take 80 to 84 up to mass, or go up to the ny turnpike?
-
80 to 84. no question.

Thanks dude.

ditto on that one, but hey it may well work out as no one else but you or me seems to want to go up that way, if the rate is good enough I will go in a minute
