see , you have been here since what july and you don't yet have a clue what being mercerized is. the meaning was posted right in these last few pages.
it simply means be patient, wait and take a load the next day if need be rather than take something for the heck of it, it means know Your cost of operation and do what makes you happy, it means to learn the mercer system and how to work your board position to your advantage.
it simply means learning how to make money and be relaxed doing it, by having complete freedom to make your own choices. the oly you have to do from time to time is to keep yourself from becoming to picky.
and its exactly as you say , everyones is different and you have to find what works for you and do it, the beauty is the mercer system allows everyone the freedom to to just that. -
Thanks for the advice, I haven't seen the weather forecast yet. I'm glad I'm getting a good rate for this. Rob.
-
Sad isnt it? They give you a better rate 'leased ' on to them as opposed to an outside carrier...Ihere brokers call my office all the time with freight and they NEVER come even close on the rate on a particular Lane..Usually 10-20% low on rate.

I take it you have never had your own authority m just worked for aguy who let you get load off the load board then. I like how you then determine that guys like flightline and I don't have what it takes, after 10 years of company trucks trucks starting in 1979 , I bought my first one in 1989 and leased to Bennett motor, in 1991 I bought a reefer and struck out on my own hauling exempt with just a dot number(don't need authority for that) brokered all my own loads and had several direct produce accounts, new your state apple assn., la. sweet potatoe, piggly wiggly, and several Vidalia onion farms in my area. in 1996 I got my mc number and eventually got out of the reefer business , and had 2 trucks with a dedicated routes out of a window plant, I running flats, and in conjunction with my father -in-laws mobile home business ended up having 8 trucks running modular and mobile homes directly from plants all over south ga, and 2 trucks hauling out of Plainville,ks with mobiles all over the western states. we also had 2 modular set crews , 1 mobile home set crew , 1 full time trim out crew. we saw the housing crash coming before it happened and had maneuvered ourselves into position by having all equip and other vehicles paid for, we had zero debt, right at the start of the housing collapse my father -in-law died of cancer , by that time I was totally exhausted and longed for the days of me being one guy, one truck with only me to answer to. from 1989 to 2008 was a good ride, made some money, and had a good time.
after being with mercer the last 3 years, I can relax and take it a good bit easier, but with your above business plan, I only see a few holes. it simply isn't as easy as you lay it all out, paying 3 per cent factor fees, money to dispatch services , and load boards will suck you dry quick. everyone seems to think go it own your own suddenly means an extra 25 per cent, its far from that easy . when you factor in liability, cargo ins. all those paid for items you list, the difference is not all that great.
there are also ways of getting the same discounts on fuel like we do at mercer, those are better than the few cents on those cards you mentioned.
you seem to think you have just invented the wheel, but I understand your enthusiasm, what I wouldn't give to be full of urine and vinegar again.
flightline and I take no offense at your youthful enthusiasm, we once knew it all also.
but remember this , dont confuse what we do now with not being able to hack it, cause I was doing this before you could wipe your own behind and as one old geezer told me once " I have pushed a coffee cup across a counter at a truckstop more miles than you have driven"".
hey, I got five kids I am used to folks that know everything. dinners on me if we cross pathsRedrider, Blind Driver and Flightline Thank this. -
well, not really sad at all. you have to understand mercers system, there are a bit different than other carriers, many other carriers agents make more money if they broker loads to outside carriers, mercer loads are put on our load board before they are brokered out, what left is basically is brokered. I am glad to hear that actually that you are being offered to rakings and scrapings left over.
and we are no different than anywhere else we have loads on our board that aren't worth pulling, one has to understand these days many loads are cattle calls load sent out to every company with a truck and trailer, ever notice how many of the same loads are every carriers broker board at times? -
better check the forecast for the winter is due up there late sunday and Monday, http://www.weather.com/weather/wxdetail2/USMA0046eres
