I'm starting orientation with J & R schugel on Sept 30. Excited is an understatement!
-
So how is it going there?
-
It's going very well, thanks for asking Betty boop. J&r is definitely one of the better trucking companies out there, especially coming from a former Werner driver ha. Schugel has lots of dry freight and reefer contracts throughout the country (ikea, maltomeal, Kraft, Electrolux, etc) so almost all of my loads are preloaded and ready to go. They start at 36 cpm and give you around 2500-2700 miles weekly. Very good equipment. All their trucks are APU equipped. They gave me a 2012 freightliner with 181k on the dash, lots of trailers are new too, hauled a shiny 2014 home with me this week. Their office staff in Minnesota is very nice. My dispatcher is a really good guy, he was a driver for 20 something years prior to dispatching, so he knows all about the struggle! He also gets me home on time, whenever I ask. I was home for 5 days straight for thanksgiving break. So, yeah schugel has got a lot going for it. They're not perfect though. Benefits are kinda costly (thanks obamacare), they have forced per diem, and they have lots of restricted toll roads you have to go around. But that's no big deal to me. I like j&r schugel otherwise, and they've been good to me this far. Any other questions just feel free to ask
Jerzeegirlc Thanks this. -
That's good to hear. Take care and drive safe.

Which division are you in? dry, reefer. Also do they run New England much? Thanks
-
I haul dry freight. And no, I've actually never even gone into New York with schugel (praise The Lord). PA and NJ are the only northeast states I go in. I don't mind NJ at all, born and raised in mays landing NJ for 24 years. Most of our freight runs from NJ PA MD area out to Minnesota or Wisconsin then back out towards the east coast. Lots of Midwest runs, occasionally we'll go near Nebraska or Kansas. We do occasional southeast too, we'll go down to Texas or Georgia every so often... But so far no New England!
TDriver4Life and Jerzeegirlc Thank this. -
Hey thanks for the reply neighbor. I see you live in Mays Landing. I live in Linwood (born and raised) Good to hear it's going well. Drive safe. Thanks for the info. P.S. Love Mays Landing. Use to be my stomping grounds when I was younger. I even rented a little cottage on the river in Sunshine Park. Lol. Take care.

Yeah mays landing is great. It has it's small town charm and I love that. Plus we've got the mall, consumer square, Hamilton commons, etc. And of course were only 20 mins from AC and the beach! Linwood is very nice too, even closer to the beach! I love all those enormous homes they have there. I used to be a delivery driver for ventura's offshore cafe a few years ago, so I'm pretty familiar with the area. The owner of that establishment was such a creep that he made me wanna do a complete overhaul of my life. So I got my CDL and now here I am! Btw I know Linwood isn't too truck friendly of a town, I hope you'll have enough room to accommodate the full truck. If you wanna work for Schugel, they ask that you bring a trailer home with you.
-
Yea you are right you don't really see big rigs rolling through Linwood. I have only ever brought the tractor home. Have always worked for a company that had a drop lot within 75 miles, so I'd drop trlr. and bobtail home. I did talk to a recruiter at J&R. I was pre-hired. Kinda changed my my mind though. I Think I am going to go with a small local company. Home on weekends, salaried position. I'm mulling it over. Good to hear you are liking job. Nice talking to you. Drive safe.
