I'm out of trucking now... Sold my truck and trailer so I could go back into law enforcement full time.
I still have buddies at Mercer , some very happy and some not at all. There like most companies , nothing really special about Mercer. I highy discourage the lease purchase program they offer for trailers... -
Here's everything you need to know about MERCER, LESS the BS:
I think it's in your own best interest to bone up and show up at Mercer with: a truck that can pass a simple inspection and is not 3 payments behind, no illegal drugs in your body, enough money to eat on, some ears the size of elephants, so you can listen to what they try to tell you in orientation, (It's hard hearing over a bunch of ######### who think it's a social event!) some; chains, straps , tarps, bungee cords, timbers, binders, and a ..... OH YEAH.. a TRAILER. If you don't have this stuff, be prepared to: not get through orientation, or start in debt to Mercer for $3000.00 for securement and weather protection, and $10,000 -$35,0000 for a TRAILER before you even deadhead out of MERCERTOWN!!!
Now add this to your truck payment, fuel expense, repairs and upkeep, your home expenses if you have them. In todays trucking market, if you owe everybody, I think you're screwed before you start.
Try to act like a professional truck business owner. I know it's hard for some, but trucking is hard work. If you don't like hard work and you're just looking for a place to hang, well you can hang at Mercer for a while. A lot of people do, that's why a 2 year old trailer will have four or five different trailer numbers on it.
Oh yeah , a tip for success... believe as much info that you garner from the WORLD WIDE WEB as you would believe from a CB chat in a truckstop parking lot. Mercer is just another job. It's what you bring to organization that will determine what you will reap from it. Here's another tip for ya, NEVER owe money to the people that sign your checks, because they will always get their due before "U"!!!! Ain't it a funny world???
Klleetrucking, Lady K and whoopNride Thank this. -

high seas, I am always surprised at the folks who lease on and then are surprised when the deductions for stuff start. I myself did the lease with mercer on a trailer, got a used one with 33 payments, never a problem with it, paid it off in November and now its mine free and clear.
but yes , its what you make of it here at mercer, they give you the means, but you have still got to use your head.Lady K and whoopNride Thank this. -
I am not surprised at all. you mean you sold that tricked out truck? and lmilan he was with landstar after he left mercer, I guess they screwed him too, lol.Last edited: Dec 20, 2013

I have been talking with drivers across the country who pull over there and everyone I have spoken with wish they started their career with them and plus I have a buddy who went over there about a couple of years now and he showed me his total for his first year and it was $179,426 gross for flatbed and he is at home just as much as he is on the road. That is a true number for revenue for him.
