Your Thoughs on working for ABF

Thats why I left CWF in the first place. Hope you find what your looking for though. But I will say you did move across the country to keep working for Com-Way. I'm in the same boat I think about other career choices but right now times are tough

 

I made the right move then. College is way cheaper out here, cost of living is also no where compared to living in a box in Manhattan. I've got a 1000 sq ft apt I pay 800 bucks for. Dont have to worry about parking or someone scratching my new car. I dont regret it one bit. But I was smart while I was here and saved 40% of almost every check, so I can afford to take some time off.
I love doubles, and I couldnt see myself pulling a van day in/day out. And I absolutely refuse to go back to the bottom of another LTL company's linehaul board, not even OD whom I recommend. Just a personal choice for me I guess.
But I'll still lurk around here and give my input from time to time.

 

Just curious, but why OD?

 

OD is no different or any more special than any other LTL. I liked working for them in Seattle (most days) but out here in NJ...ehh, not the same at all. The terminal and the people who run it are what make or break an LTL gig.

 

I'm in ky.. but I'm only 22.. 8months experience and no endorsements currently.. abf won't hire me for linehaul

 

If you don't mind working graveyard it's great...it's not for me don't care how great the money is. P&D and OTR jobs are much easier to come by is the other thing.

 

They definitely one of the best to work for. Won't hire if you had a dui.

Seeing how we are all ranting and raving... Ive been going through a pretty rough time myself. The wife decided to bounce and I've been stuck home alone trying to pick up the pieces and figure out what do from here on out. This also explains my extended absence from TTR.

I am absolutely fed up with my job as well but it just pays so #### good. I would pretty much be happier doing anything else right now, but I've become so complacent. It is nice to make $1200/week and not have to worry about anything.

The sad thing is, I have the financial means to go to any school right now and get a degree (hell, I've been wanting to go to culinary school for two years). The fact that my wife left me makes it this much easier since I no longer have anyone or anything tying me down here where I live.

I have no idea why I am still here. I guess I am just so used to it by now. Sad thing is I never wanted to get roped into this crap to make a career out of it. I just wanted to run LTL long enough to get my feet on the ground. But I got so good at it.
