I just got a local position with my company, Ill be working 12 hour shifts mon-friday. So what Im wondering is how you locals keep your food and drinks cold during the day? Is it as simple as a small cooler and icepack? if so, any specific kind? My goal is to prevent my self from stopping into the t/s during the day and grabbing a soda. If I have cold bottles of water in reach, I have no problem drinking them instead of soda. They just have to be cold. Any of you ever just take one of those 12v coolers in your daycab and put it on your passenger seat? So far me and my slip seater on the truck have good communication, so im sure it wont be an issue if I did that. But if there is something easier and cheaper than a 90 dollar cooler. Im all ears.
How do you keep drinks/food cold while out?

30 bucks gets you a cooler that plugs into the cigarette plug.

12 volt coolers are a pain in the ### in a day cab. I use a small cooler, about the size of a six pack, and fill it with my water bottles and ice from my refrigerator. My ice maker never has a problem keeping up with my ice demands. I always bring a sandwich and a bag of chips for a snack. It's a lot cheaper shopping at Walmart then in a truck stop. The cooler I use is soft sided with a hard plastic insert to contain any melt water. It also has a velcro flap on the lid, so I don't have to open the top all the time.

I'd just stick with ice. I had a 12V cooler that about killed me one time as I woke up to a toxic smoke filled cabin and a melted glob of plastic.
12V coolers only drop the temp about 40 degrees. On a 90 degree day they aren't the best.
You have to pack the cooler each morning, right? So the ease and portability of a Lunchmate, some ice you can easily drag it inside to the kitchen each day.
You don't want a styrofoam noise maker. Squeak, squeak, squeak all daylong will drive you nuts.blairandgretchen, TheTruckdr and KC Guardrail Thank this. -
I use a coleman extreme 5 day ice chest, I refuse to trust my health to a simple 12v cooler like condo said that wont keep things cold enough to keep safe. I am debating on buying me a real 12v fridge in a couple months but deciding to drop $500 I go back and forth.
