you own your truck, trailer, have your authority, insurance, drivers to pay etc and ATRI (American Transportation Research Institute) estimates that cost of trucking is $1.63 per mile. What in the world would ever make a broker think that you will haul from east cost to midwest for $1.70?
$1.71 per mile?

By watching fuel economy you can cut your expenses to bellow 1.63. Some trucks cost almost $1.00/mile just in fuel. If you do a few monor mods and drive decently you can get that cost down to .50/mile The 1.63 is an average, you can do a lot better.blairandgretchen and EverLuc Thank this.

yeah there are tons of ways you can save and that estimate includes .11 cpm driver benefits but that doesnt mean I wont use it against a broker every chance I get.
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
Does that include FSC?

Because everyone is moving it for that..AND much less.
I know , I know Its a Shame.....But If everyone just keeps taking it,Nothing will ever change.....
You Gotta go into the Northeast Heavy$$.........Each and every Time.
ALSO.....Just a tip, Dont be Afraid,,,,,,Just because your in the Northeast...Doesnt mean you cant have freight.........There is still a handful of Maunfacturing up there.....Make Cold Calls Like the Borkers do to Secure your own freight........
Yes..Its worth the Time.....Would you Rather get $1.30 per mile out...Or $1.94 a mile out? -
First, Northeast to Midwest isn't exactly the hotbed of freight movement. The other direction is where you make your money. There IS good money in the Northeast, but it takes a little more finesse to get. Sometimes you get lucky. But when you figure the Midwest has x number of people spread over a huge terrain and the Northeast has y number of people condensed within a few hundred miles of eachother, you can figure a) who needs more food/supplies/products/etc and b) which area is wealthier to pay the cost.
Not a lot of stuff is manufactured in the northeast and shipped to the midwest. So, what does is going between a few guys.
You may think I'm crazy, but $1.70 out of the Northeast for anything about 1000 miles or more is a good rate. Is it great? No. But, it's not 90cpm to Chicago or something that some brokers try desperately to pawn off. The Northeast is simple: get paid great going up, get the best you can coming back. $3.30/mi up and $1.70/mi back would not be bad. However, one tip is the 'straight shot' tends to be the cheapest. If you can hop-skip-and-jump your way out of the northeast, you'll make a lot more per mile, but you will tend to eat up more time in your week.rollin coal and stonedoc Thank this. -
