I agree it is ridiculous. I work at night, I get a 34 every week, but I am awake between the 1am-5am period, so how is that helping to regulate my circadian rhythm? I never sleep during those hours. As for the stupid 30 minute rest break, plenty of us are beating that like a red headed step child...

Congratulations. after 70 hours you get a 34 hour restart not at home.
Can't say this enough. Get your time in and go local. Shut the door and go the heck home. it's a job, not a lifestyle from that point on.

For the 30 minute break. Park everyday at grocery store eat a hoagie and people watch :biggrin_2559:
Thank you DOT, Get to see milfs in yoga pants.

The federal government should totally do away with both the 34 hour restarts and the mandatory 30 minute breaks after 8 hours of driving. In the "long run", it seems to throw the average OTR truck driver "off track", NOT to mention that it is effecting the ability of the average OTR truck driver to earn a decent living.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

Many Americans are mindless zombies that want the politicians to make all their decisions, so that determines their votes. The politicians think truckers are the same and need to be told when they need a nap. "I'm not sleepy", "Yes you are, we know what's best for you."

The 30 minute break infuriates me.

Days I could drive 11 straight and then some.
Days I drive 2 and need a nap.

The "Lazy drivers" probably love the 34 hr + reset but hate the pay check.
Lots of time to get you in trouble, and i am betting a lot of drivers head out more tired from it just because of what they might do in that 34 + hrs.
mje, i just want to point out the 30 minute break is not "After" 8 hours "Driving" -- It's before 8 hr's and its not just driving it can be a combo of "On duty and driving"- but that's another thread and you may already know that but someone else may see that and get confused - like me LOL

now #1 I always get my restart at home #2 local maybe well and good where your at for me I would have to travel at least an hour one way to get to one of the places that has many local jobs so then I would have to put in my 11-14 hrs +2 hours to and from home kind of defeats the idea of local. #3 I love running out more than the same few places everyday and won't give it up.

I agree with most here do away with this dang 34 and 30 bs it was simple and most got plenty of rest when they needed it back when you could split your sleeper time any way you wanted as long as the last two totaled 10hr and in any given 24hr period could not drive more than 11 pretty dang simple and allowed us to avoid rush hour traffic in a lot of situations.
I ran 6 slept 5 ran 5 slept 5 it worked great as 5 is the most I ever get its just me but can't sleep more than 5 no matter what.

Lets not get into this 30min break can't count the times I could have been parked and done for the day by the time the break is over.

    Yes... you are confused.

You can use up the entire 8 hours and more before ever taking a break.

    Example:

You could drive for 8 solid hours then spend 2 more hours on duty not driving before you take the break.. perfectly legal.

You just can't drive anymore if 8 hours has passed since your last break.
