    You nailed it there.

We're in the same boat - less the maxed out retirement. I'll be doing some home renovation, update the pickup, and then save up and buy a truck for o/o , a) for a change and b)so the good wife can retire.

43 might sound too early for retirement, but she's been there the last 8 years stuck in the little prison on wheels, so she deserves it.

You got the teams right - many say they want more miles, until they start churning them out day after day . . . then the tune changes.

Why do you think a diploma will let you acheive happiness. I know several educated people that are very unhappy with their life style.

Don't be anti-education. I know many owner ops who would do well for themselves and our industry if they earned a B.A. in business administration or entrepreneurship, or at least went through a clinic for small business owners.

Heck, many just need to pick up a business math textbook and a calculator and practice doing math!

Negotiation studies and professionalism would be next on the list.

Quality carriers, go to work4qc.com and at the top of the page it will give you terminal locations find the affiliate near you and give them a call. but you still have to go thru the online app. and be cleared by the Tampa office

I have 2 close friends of mine who are both owner-operators. One who has E-logs, One who doesn't. They both ran 140,000 miles last year, which is a heck of a lot more miles than I choose to run.
The biggest difference is Mr. Elog pretty much has to jump through all the hoops and his operations people(dispatchers) pull their hair out when he simply says: Look at the same screen I have on your computer, I don't have the hours. His every move is planned right down to when he can use the potty. He is slave to the machine
Mr. Paper log still does it the old fashioned way. Sleeps when he wants, eats when he wants etc.

Both companies employ a similar # of both company drivers and owner operators( in the hundreds).
According to official CSA records, Mr. Elog's company has many more accidents(including fatal) more speeding, lane change, tailgating tickets( almost at an intervention level on the Basic) but literally 0 log violations(driver fatigue)on that Basic
Mr. Paper Log's company has almost zero accidents and statistically far fewer tickets but are near an intervention level regarding log violations(driver fatigue) basic.

This statistical anomaly is becoming obvious to even the most dense of Federal regulators, specifically when pointed out by 3rd parties( OOIDA etc) in a court of law. Similar totally inflexible regulations were put into effect in the Airline industry at the beginning of this year. That is one of the reasons that airline flight cancellations are at an all time high. This whole business of driver/pilot fatigue is not over yet. Let a couple of high profile crashes occur with drivers with an Elog on the dash and the thought process will have to change.

Well said, well typed!!! Studebaker Hawk, I wish there was someone out there really interested in getting to the truth. One can be perfectly legal to drive and completely unsafe to do so. The E-log doesn't take into account anything other than the exact letter of the law.

We all have had days when we could drive 1000 miles and not feel fatigued at all. Conversely, I have had days where 100 miles was difficult because I was so sleepy!

And that is all the e-log was ever designed for .... compliance. It doesn't care about the other details.

So according to this guys "statistical anomaly" he'd be fine accepting elogs if the HOS were changed to his liking? Maybe no hos at all?

That's what he's saying, right? Guys who cheat on their logs are safer drivers and if they weren't held to the current laws and could do whatever they want, then elogs would be ok.

It's guys like the one in in IL that killed the toll worker, and injured state trooper that give you "old fashioned" guys a bad name. What was determined? He'd run over a 1k miles in the last 24 hours before the accident with about 3-5 hours of sleep. Falsified his PAPER logs.

Yeah that was just last month.

    "Old Fashioned" drivers indeed!
