Unless the company pays for it,I would'nt rent a car to go home not to mention the gas also.If my company made it a habit not to get me home the day or close to it I requested, then its time to seek employment elsewhere.Companies want you to be ontime with loads,no reason why that can't apply to getting the drivers home ontime as well.

Here is the issue the company doesn't have the loads aval to get the fellow home, they are not going to pay him and the fuel to run the empty truck back so he can have days off. It is not the best area to get loads going to, or out of for that matter. Get a load where they have one that gets you close and then rent a car and go home. They are not going to pay for a rental car, it is not like you are going for anything but days off. Why do people these days think that the company should pay to get you home, get you close sure but almost to your doorstep. It is what it is you have to work with what is there and not demand that things change just for you. Quit and go to another company what is that going to do he lives in a area with limited freight possibilities another company is not going to change that.

Oh . Lol sorry I must lack in common sense where you excel with a attitude. ( no disrespect to a wiser driver then I )
But not giving a reasonable time is horse #### .

Yea , and I would help cause while they do no plan you seven days out . It helps them to know that you want to head that direction, other wise they could send you farther away .
See reality sets in quite a bit because your obviously not going to get a load that takes you right to your town or city where you live , you may need to take a load or even two to get you there.

maybe that is common sense , huh. I have some after all.

Rent a car for hometime,do you have any idea what the cost of that is and with company driver pay.So when the driver comes back to work, whats he suppose to do rent a car?.Most your check would be to get home,is it really worth it unless in an emergency,I think not.I know companies won't let you dh a lot of miles just to get home.I do have 11 yrs exp so I know alittle bit how this industry works.Theres no reason why companies cannot get you home the day you requested, maybe a few days before or a few days after but not over a week and you're still hundreds of miles from home.Companies don't start looking for a home load till the last minute and then they cant find one.Gee imagine that.Drivers stay out a month or longer so hometime is very important to them and companies should bend over backwards to get them home like the drivers do when delivering and picking up loads.

you brought up being in cali when you live in ny

my point was that, even an owner operator cannot demand to be home tomorrow if he lives in ny and he is loading in cali

these companies make quite a bit of money off of their drivers and they all believe that a hungry driver can always be controlled, so they keep you out, running their freight, collecting all the profits and tell you not to idle the truck, freeze so you can have a $25 safety bonus, as they save hundreds of dollars having you drive at 55mph

sorry, they can get you home if they want to, but they choose not to

and too many of us believe their lies

    tangerineGT Thanks this.

so spend the pennies you make to get home? and i bet they tell you that you can only stay home three days, too

some of us really need to invest in a nice wig, some stillettos, and a short mini skirt, because we are not only being pimped, but we like it

Local vs OTR has nothing to do with it. How would that even make a difference?
