Have fun understanding them too . Hahaha
if I.N.S. would go into some of these places we wouldn't be paying lumpers anymore . Lol

This one place down in texas one time charged 185.00 to unload 6 pallets with no breakdown . Really WTF ?
took longer for me to fill out the check then it did for them to unload .

Lumper - from old Latin, meaning theif, scoundrel, scallywag or scumbag.

Also not recognized by most spellchecks.

Also see - DOT officer, CARB, and politician.

Also probably has nicer clothes and a better car than you or I do. Judging by the employee parking at a lot of grocery warehouses anyway...

When I worked loco I'd find out wich one's were easy unloadslike the one you described and I'd call my dispatch and tell them I'll do for a hundred or a little less than what they would charge.

Made lots of easy money that way

The main point of the lumper scam is low wage work:

In many of these distribution centers the recievers are union making $20-$30 an hour. The people doing the hard work of unloading the truck are often immigrants working for around $10. The company that bought the product off your truck don't want pay the $20-$30 bucks for the union worker and the union contract will prevent them from subcontracting out. So now the Lumper company becomes the subcontractor of the trucker not the store.

So here is the results of the Scam:

The reciever's cull, waste of a human, brother-in-law gets the good $30 an hour job. He signs a few bills, counts a few boxes, and takes lots of breaks. Since he does no work so he uses his time to hate on truckers.

The lumper company becomes the contractor of the trucking company not the distributer. He can overcharge for his labor because the truck driver is not welcome on the dock. He then makes money at both ends because most of his workers are illegal and work for 'mucho pecos' and few dollars.

Since the truck driver works for free (cpm), he gets to donate more his time to be the 'money mule' or 'banker' for this scam. Additionally, this allows the trucking company yet another opportunity to screw the driver out of a few bucks as the 'paperwork' for the lumpers gets worked out between settlements.

If this whole screw-ball game gets worked out the truck may get out of the dock in 3-4 hours when it could of been back on the road in less than 20 minutes. But it don't matter, the trucker's work is free when you get paid cpm.

    Oh please.

We all pay for everything at the checkout counter.

But we don't pay any more for things because of lumpers, because if the company hired people to do the job it would end up the same - if not higher.

We are very lucky that more companies don't cut their costs by using lumpers.

Toomanybikes, I've had lumper services that have unloaded me much faster than company workers many times.

While I don't like having the extra time and effort of doing the macro's and filling out the Comcheck, many lumper services seem to be better at the job than people employed by the receiver.
