I averaged 1.11 per mile in 2009. No, that was not plus fuel surcharge - that was gross to the truck.

That is gross for sure.
Walked into the Hamilton, OH terminal and was told they had run going to Washington, think Seattle, that was out and back at $1.55 with fuel? That sounded low. $1.11 and you better being a company driver for somewhere. -

If your staying 7 days on the road 3300 miles isn't much but doing it for a $1.05 would suck now that fuel is $4+ a gallon.

Sounds to me like making money with Roadrunner is through approved brokers, and load boards and not use the terminal. How is the LTL division at Roadrunner, and is there a large amount of startup costs getting on with them?

Just went through orientation. No upfront money for me to start, but there are a lot of fees and deductions that will hit against the settlement which lags about 2 weeks behind the date you sign the contract they say.
I figure to pick up my trailer on Monday, they want to load me at the terminal on Tuesday evening going to Seattle. Well that's only 800 miles and ties me into that for the following paycheck with all the deductions I figure would put me close to break even or negative $$.
As soon as I pick up my trailer, boom I'm calling the brokerage dept to get me moving, trips have to be transflo'd in by Friday to be paid the following Friday. I'd like to break off 1700 - 2000 miles by Thursday.
I thought it was an interesting shell game that the IC can score like $0.30 discount on fuel at the bigs, but then they charge you for loading an advance on the fuel card depending on what sort of load it is, headhaul or backhaul or hustle your own freight haul etc pretty much in my mind equals out to paying full price for he fuel at the end.
Still, I'm looking forward to running for them. If it is any indication successful trucking, some of the IC trucks are spit shined and polished in the terminal. -
forget the backhaul department! pay $40 for internet truckstop or getloaded and get the free load boards too. mike derrick will try to screw you more than the brokers! he seems like a good guy with lots of energy when you meet him in orientation, but he is an absolute joke. see what they offer you while you are looking on your own and calling on your own loads. bet you do much better
