[h=2]6 Best Rest Stops for Truckers Across the U.S.[/h]Posted on Mar 19, 2014By: Classadrivers.com
When you live your life in transit, it makes all the difference where you take a break. A stop along the highway is often the much-needed respite to energize you for a long journey, but you dont want to stop just anywhere. Weve compiled a list of some of the best rest stops for truckers across the United States so you can be sure your downtime is well spent.
Most Welcoming
Dysarts: Bangor, Maine
Dysarts prides themselves on being a small community. Theyre equipped with a full-service garage, a truck wash, showers and a restaurant. If you find yourself there in winter, its a great place to warm up.
Best Entertainment
Jubitz Travel Center and the Portlander Inn ortland, Oregon
A Jubitz visitor once remarked, If you cant be at home, you should be at Jubitz. Known for their comfy lodging and friendly service, Jubitz is a good place to take a load off and stay awhile. Complete with an 80-seat movie theater that shows first run films (tickets are only $5!), dance lessons and live music on weekends, you wont be bored during your stay.
Best Place for a Sore Back
Petro Truck Stops: Various Locations
Among video arcades and a small screening room to watch movies, many Petro locations come with an in-house chiropractor to give your back some relief from the trials of travel.
Best Food
R-Place Restaurant: Morris, Illinois
Conveniently located off the I-80, this place is one-of-a-kind with antique toy displays. This upscale diner has a unique atmosphere and quality, homemade food.
Best Place to Wash Up
Little America Hotel: Flagstaff, AZ
Little America is dedicated to making your trip easier and better. Their private showers are clean and luxurious, with discount rates available for drivers with a valid CDL. They list up-to-date gas prices on their website, so you know if youre getting a good deal before you even arrive.
Best Overall
Iowa 80: Walcott, Iowa
Its unanimous -- the Iowa 80 is a must-stop for truckers. Founder Bill Moon always loved trucks and made it his mission to create a place that served professional truckers better. Complete with a truck museum, a barbershop and a dentist, they also host an annual three-day festival, the Truckers Jamboree, to honor Americas truckers.
Gone But Not Forgotten
There are a few places we came across in compiling this list that we wish were still open for business:
Rip Griffin Travel Center in Braunfels, TX
While you can still visit various Rip Griffin locations for chicken fried steak or high-quality petroleum products, their travel center in Braunfels, Texas, is rumored to have instated quite an interesting policy in the late '90s: Upon arrival, truckers were chauffeured from the parking lot to the restaurant in a Cadillac limo by a man named Ralph Buckeye Orion and were given complimentary coffee to enjoy. Sadly, this location was sold to Travel Centers of America in 2004 and we dont think theyve maintained the tradition.
Willies Place in Carls Corner, TX
Willie Nelson once had partial ownership of this truck stop, and performed on occasion at the Whiskey River Saloon next door. To the disappointment of many Nelson fans, the management changed in 2011 and it was converted to a more basic truck stop, sans Willie. Read more about it

Those little trucks they have are neat.Chinatown Thanks this. -
Bosselman's in Grand Island, NE was my favorite truck stop back when I ran OTR prior to 2007. Boise Stage Stop in Boise, ID, Johnson's Corner in Johnstown, CO, Ranch Hand in Montpelier, ID, Giant Truck Stop in Jamestown, NM (Now a Pilot), and White's Truck Stop in Raphine, VA (Now a Petro) were among the most common independent truck stops I preferred to stop and spend time at over the years. Each of these truck stops were unique and all had great food. Oh the memories!
Chinatown, Pasquale, Joetro and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yes, I'm with ya on the Giant Truck Stop in Jamestown, NM & Boise Stage Stop & Bosselman's.
I quit going to White's in Raphine, VA when the waitress charged me for a full buffet when I only ordered a small bowl of lettuce. She said it didn't matter since the lettuce came from the buffet; the manager sided with her so I never went back. That was probably 10 years ago and I'm still PO'd about it; in fact, my blood pressure is going up right now just thinking about it. -
Used to love the Giant Truck Stop in Jamestown before Pilot ruined it. Jubitz is still a good one, just hard to get to, compared to most. Worth it, though. I stop at the Boise Stage Stop whenever I'm through there.
There was one in Idaho Falls, ID years ago that was pretty good. Off of 20, I believe. Tiger Truck Stop, I think it was called.Chinatown Thanks this. -
There was a place on I-44 in Missouri, exit 145. I think it was a Conoco truck stop. Small place. But the restaurant was great. You walked in and immediately felt like you were back in the early 80's. They had a big table just for professional drivers. And the food was great. All home cooked. Great prices. Many times I walked out without being able to finish all they sat down in front of me and paid less than $10.

Jubitz - watch your credit card in the restaurant, waitress took mine behind the counter and stole the number, charged up a bunch!

i think boise stage stop has kind of gone down hill. food isn't as good as once was. the convenience store isn't bad. but could be freshened up a bit to present a more friendly cleaner shopping., the showers still rock though. huge and clean.
the truckstop in idaho falls is dads travel center. truckers app says there's a yellowstone truckstop also, but the only thing i'm aware of is loves.
there's a truckstop. called exit 45. it's in wisconsin. you can have breakfast AND dinner for the price of ONE MEAL everywhere else. and the food was very good. located on interstate 94. at exit 45., -
The average truck stop that was once Willie's Place is a Petro. But I will have to say it is an above average Petro. Spacious facility..great showers and better than average Petro food in the Iron Skillet. Still a great stop.
