well i finally made it. i had a very good trainer and we worked together. maybe he was happy that i drove 600+ miles a day and making him money. who knows? i now have my own freightliner in the yard complete with a manual transmission . im truly blessed because i didnt want an automatic. i did my first two loads in the hardest and smallest spaces in docks that ive ever seen. i didnt hit anything so i think i did ok. my neighbor is still trying to figure out how i got the truck in my yard and is wondering if i can get it out. i told him if i got it in i can get it out, i hope. but am doing ok considering the company reputation. i have a good driver manager and couldnt ask for better loads and miles. anyway i hadnt been on here in a while and decided to say hi and give you all an update on my progress and to say thanks to everyone for your help. oh and also if i dont get to answer some posts, not being rude , will be gone again. life of a trucker which you all know very well, but will answer when i can again
back home for a day

i did but they hired me back. to my surprise they actually hired me back. but am doing well now and the more i drive the better i will be. im still a rookie and people laugh at me when i GOAL ( get out and look ) but ive not hit anything so far and hopefully i wont. i really dont want to hit another truck as i know that would really stir up a hornets nest. some drivers have helped me a lot out there in those tight places with no lighting. and there have been some yell at me because im in their way but oh well im getting the job done. and i will be better with time and experience. im gonna continue to be as careful as i can and hope for the best. my first load was at a plant that had docks so tight that a sleeper truck couldnt get into the docks. i didnt know this and kept trying to back in but couldnt. i didnt want to say i couldnt get in there because i didnt want to look like a dummy but the yard dog came around to my releif and told me that no truck could get in there and that he even had trouble with the yard dog getting them in there. that saved my ego. lol. he put it in and then brought it back to me after it was loaded. they told me that after a few months that i could run southeast regional if i wanted it. that will be good for me as i know what im getting into down here.

Don't worry about them laughing you're covering your a$+ wait till you have to back in a parking space in the middle of the night with no other light source beside your trailer lights. Now would be a perfect time to use goal
-
i have seen these parking areas you talk about and i wont back in unless i do use goal. some have taken vehicles out because they are too lazy to walk 60 to 70 feet and look at where they are at. im not gonna be one of them.

Goal don't worry bout other drivers comment I still goal better safe than sorry,,,,good luck
-
I used GOAL my entire 30 yrs. career.
I don't care who laughs or yells at me as long as they don't get too aggressive; if they do I just poke a finger in their eye and their priorities change immediately. It's so painful, all they want is relief! -
i only GOAL when i am not sure, which happens about twice a month
congrats on your new gig (or old one)
