Excuse my new-ness. Linehaul is just between terminals right? I'm in my first year working for a beer company doing bulk grocery deliveries which is ok, but studying for HAZMAT so I can get a higher paying gig once I'm capable of applying to some companies (6mo or 1yr) trying to look into daily home stuff as I just had my first kid but sometimes I'm not sure of the terminology. Also is LTL is typically a home daily thing?

Ummm... wrong what the last guy said. Linehaul runs between terminals. We call them turnpoints. Basically it means you "turn around" and head back home. We lay over 5% of the time. Some guys run on bids and lay over more by choice... mostly to get more miles. But no. We are not out for weeks. No idea why someone would write that. Even regional doesn't stay out for weeks.

Not busting your balls RR. what you said is true.
This isn't just a LTL side. Forget it myself all the time.
When i did line haul( local ) flat bedding simply a different language. We called it dedicated run around. Plant to plant ( terminal to terminal )
Different speak. same thing. OP threw in last sentence LTL.
#2 poster is correct also. Some Ma and Pa Shops ( LTL ) around my area does that practice as well.
yeah it's confusing.Last edited: Apr 7, 2014

Ma and pa set up is not your typical LTL. I kinda feel the OP wants to get a general feel for the big box LTL firms. What your local homegrown LTL guys do is one thing.... what the big league guys do is another set up. As for the key players... we keep our linedrivers out 5% of the time... In a hotel room.cabwrecker and Shaggy Thank this.

Spot on. LTL is a weird world.

LTL is it's own genre within trucking. Anytime you go local, many people accuse you of "not being a REAL trucker". You run local for Coke... you are not a trucker. You work for a beverage distribution company... you run for YRC, ABF, MTS, OD, FxF, NEMF, CWF, or any of the other acronyms I forgot... then you are a "day cab driving driver.... making 50 CPM... big whoop, enjoy your daily hometime. you are still not a trucker". You can't win in the local world.cellopudding Thanks this.

trucking is a life style, I am simply a door slammer and it's a job. go home every day beat the wife ,make her do laundry and do dishes.
Enjoy being a trucker, not directed at you RR.
Disclaimer: I have no wife. Thank goodness for my wallet and peace and quiet. my girlfriend husband is a trucker
