I always ran a cb but usually shut it off about the time someone said something. I don't need to hear Jim Bob from Sparta tellin yins how bad us Yankees are. I took it out about a month ago when my truck went to the shop and never put it back in. If something is going on that I need to know about one of our other drivers in front of me pulling two delivery vans calls back to let me know. Then I pull my two delivery vans around the problem on secondary roads watching all the otr drivers run past the exit into the back up. The few that do get off are generally the ones holding up me and my two delivery vans once we hit roads with things like curves and stop signs. When I did run a radio, it was amazing how many times I was asked what we had to do on those roads.
What do we know.. We only pull delivery vans.. Without a big bad cb..ACH1130 Thanks this. -
ill take my delivery vans with sleeping in my own bed every night, home cooked meals, no lot lizard infested truck stops, a little "fun" with the gf, and better pay over being a "real truck driver" any day
yea it was funny listening to the real truckers asking the delivery van driver for directions when off the highway, but the CB started giving me head achesjakebrake12 and Glp Thank this. -
Man you guys are missing out! Well not these days but up to about 2003 trucking was a blast! We used to take our CB to the CB shop and get them tweaked and peaked, a term meaning they put a little more power into it because stock it was turned down. A foot warmer is a big amplifier that sat on the floor used to make our CB reach out for several miles and also receive a lot further out. BEL is a brand of radar detector, we called radar detectors bird dogs. A bear scanner is a police scanner, real name was bear cat scanner. I still use my CB every night and wouldn't go anywhere without it. Us ltl guys use our own channel but I go back and forth to the big truck channel as well. What are you guys talking about not liking to hear all the BS on the CB? That's one of my favorite past times out here listening to all the CB Rambos lol! I always need to know where the bears are since it's 55 mph in California and my truck does 65 mph and yes they will pull you over for that too.
Shaggy Thanks this. -
You ain't sleeping in the back of the truck? Well, there you go!
At this point in my life, I still view OTR as fun. That's good for now, even though I'm local at the moment.
I have zest for OTR on a longer term (bear in mind, I don't think permanent) basis. But don't discourage the guy from going OTR. Good experience on the driving perspective, and life view as well. The good, the bad, worst and ugliest out there- and a front seat view to it all. Longer term, I've got a few plans, snowballs chance in hell of any of them working, but hell if I care; instant gratification is my middle name
.
Worst comes to worst, I take a social security retirement and live in a cut-off sleeper like Ray did in the trailer park boys!cool35 Thanks this. -
I agree, amd I'm a local city driver that's (sadly) CB less. Ive always loved talking on radios for some reason since I was young. Had a CB in personal truck for years and working on my HAM license now.EHB Thanks this.
