What they contribute to the 401k is pretty modest.
Greed doesn't need to come into it.
They're running a business, not a social welfare agency.
They're just not running the business very well, and whatever profits they realize are made on the backs of the drivers.
Don't forget, some of the posts on any public message board are made by shills for the company, and many of the rest are made by clueless idiots.
As far as the drivecams, I have been told two different versions of whether they will eventually be installed in all trucks. One company official said 'yes', the other said it was a 'test'.
All I know is they are a pain in the XXX to deal with, or at least deal with the desk jockeys who you will need to deal with over the phone, over nothing.
I have no reason to believe crete will handle this fairly, and so far, its been one more reason I'm looking for another job.
Not that I have anything to hide, I'm tired of dealing with bureaucratic idiots who sit at a desk and tell me how to drive a truck. -
Did nothing wrong?
Wilkerson was grossly out of service. He had been awake for almost 34 hours. There were texts on his phone from his dispatcher saying "where are you? If you don't hurry, we are going to lose this lane! and, You need to deliver this load asap!" He didn't just rear-end a car. He killed everyone in the car. An entire family of 7 kids on their way to school. 7. When the police told the grandfather about the accident, he had a heart attack on the spot and died.
Alvin Wilkerson was asleep. His brakes were not touched until he plowed into the car and pushed it into a standing school bus. Many students on the bus were injured. He was at fault in this accident.
Yes, the girl driving only had a learner's permit. Is that why you think Crete did nothing wrong? Dude - wtf?

Is this the accident your referring to that Andre talked about. I knew nothing of it. The girl with a learner permit means nothing she is still dead.

Reason no.1 is that most small carriers (which make up the majority of trucking companies) can't afford to do this.
Reason no.2 is that it is not a FMCSA regulation to do this.
Just like with the unman-dated/unregulated push with larger companies to have overweight drivers tested for sleep apnea, they are now doing the same with driver cams. For these larger carriers it stems from the desire to protect themselves from litigation and therefore to protect their SELF INSURED funds.
Is this a slam on large carriers? NO! If you were a business owner would you not want to protect the finances you worked and sacrificed for over a lifetime? Thus protecting the jobs you have created. -

No, if I run a business, I expect to make a profit. I said greed is not a factor. It is possible to be fair to employees while making a profit.
The profits they make are mostly made from the driver making an extra effort to make things happen, putting up with BS.
We can't pass the buck on to somebody else and run home at the end of our shift, which is what I have seen the crete office people do too many times.
The dry van industry is difficult to make money in, due to the massive companies who can afford to haul it cheaper.
