At least the driver was able to get out of the rig. Scary stuff. Why was he down there? Is it posted no 53"?

Actually I went through again and saw that someone already posted this story a couple weeks ago. My bad....

That's one of those PA roads that's posted to prohibit 102" doubles or single 102" trailers over 28 1/2 feet. He was probably following GPS. Next time I bump into Bobby (the police chief) I'll ask him.

Will do. I feel bad for anyone who has to navigate the roads around here and isn't familiar with the area. Lots of places you can't go and they creep up on you.

About three weeks ago, I had a guy in my class who had been experienced, but had let his CDL go due to family issues. He was chock full of stories along those lines about most of the Northeast. Said CT is almost as bad. Never drove out there myself. Always ran Western.

I don't know if this was gps related or not but I really believe that map reading should be an endorsement on the cdl nowadays... that sure would eliminate quite a few accidents like this... if you can't read a map then you don't get your class a cdl............

Yeah, there's a sign in the story that says no 102 over 28.5. Seems like just about every road up that way is like that. Gotta keep yer eyes EXTRA peeled when driving in PA.

Trucker Atlases don't show specific local areas. They are only good to get you from town to town.

Rand McNally worked fine before gps came along and continues to work fine. how do you think freight got moved all these years??? between my map, pay phones, cell phone, my cb and some common sense I managed to get anywhere I needed to go to get my freight picked up and delivered and never had any issues. I guess I'm too old school to depend on a gps over my map...
