My experience with Roehl Transport and OTR in general

So Roehl made some mistakes that effected you and not some of the other students that were with you. Because of that, you felt the need to not only insult fellow drivers, but to choose a username that insults other drivers. Seems to me, you are kind of an #######. Just an observation.

 

You don't have enough experience to know that showering everyday on the road everyday isn't always possible. Just wondering you didn't realize you'd be gone all the time and rarely see your kids before you decided to apply at OTR companies?

 

Roehl is still in business because you were exactly one of those "unknowing students" as you call them. Whatever the case is, they baited you, and you fell for it. If you are that unhappy there then pack up and move on.

While I agree that Roehl is not a good company, I will say that I have interacted with a lot of their drivers over the last 10 years. Not all of them are living in a trailer park on wife #3, and have have ran into some from Roehl and even Swift and Werner that were very professional. I have also seen some independent owner operators who have supposedly been at it 25+ years that I wouldn't trust driving a bicycle.

One thing you are doing is criticizing and industry and your fellow workers in a job that you have next to zero experience in. If I just got an accounting degree, and landed a job at Wells Fargo, and ran around complaining about "snobby college kids simply trying to claw their way up the corporate ladder", chances are i wouldn't make it very long.

If you want to make a living at this be and be a success, I recommned that you seriously re-evaluate your attitude. And take advice from those of us who have been in your shoes. After 1 or 2 years of OTR year I thought I knew everything, and it took several swift kicks in the tail over the past ten years to show me otherwise.

 

The fact is u did not do enough research before u decided u could make a "fortune" driving trucks. Fact is trucking is rough. I come from a family of truckers, I have run local, regional, and over the road all of them have their real crappy sides and all have there positives. If u think that running local is going to be a breeze u sir are a idiot. For the most part the only difference between local and otr is u go home for your 10hr break. With no experience to drive local u will probably make less money than otr. U should have done better research to begin with. And I'm not defending these companies. I'm just letting u have my 2 cents

 

I worked at Roehl in flatbed dispatch for 5 years. It's not perfect and sometimes things go wrong. I will say that you missed out on a very valuable training experience. I can appreciate your frustration with the truck situation, but you would have been better off sticking it out and learning from what they were going to teach you. The job hopping is going to hurt your chances of landing something decent. Hopefully you've got connections and can land something good. I just know that I wouldn't want you to work for any company that I'm at, your work history is a concern to me just from what you've posted here. Best of luck bro.

 

I disagree. You had a valuable training experience. You found out what many people have found out about Roehl in particular, and the megacarriers in general. You would not be better off sticking with Roehl, especially Roehl in Atlanta. Job hopping is not an issue when you are hopping from what everybody knows is a "starter company." You see, when people recruit truck drivers, they know about these companies, and they know its not a normal job. How do I know that? That's what my recruiter told me at my last job, when I quit Roehl after 6 months of stupidity. And guess what? Roehl wanted me back! They kept calling and they sent me advertisements in the mail. Just like Roehl will want you back. Like I said, not normal. Because with Roehl, just like with any other coolie carrier, its a burn and churn system, a numbers game.
Now you know that Roehl is not a good fit for you. You can guess that many other carriers that look like Roehl will not be a good fit for you. You should look for something different. There are many different types of truck driving. Just something to keep in mind.

 

This scenario is a common thing with student drivers and its a shame the big companies do this to people and get away with it. Lets not forget what these companies get from the government for putting a student on their books whether they work them or not

 

Seems to me you were hired over the phone, showed up at both places,
opened your mouth and spewed hate and neither one wanted anything
to do with you.
all the other students were stupid and can't drive,
the trainers were fools who stink and are miserable,
dispatchers were incompetent and clueless,

yet those other students got new trucks and trainers before you
And your dispatchers seen your number come up on caller ID and
ignored your call.

you got nothing to offer these companies to put up with you.
Your attitude shows hate and disgust for anybody not
up to your high standers.

this is not a roell problem this is a YOU problem.

 

True and very unfair companies like Roehl receive subsidy even if the person last 1 day.So in reality you're only hurting yourself not staying no matter how the company is.They rather you quit so they can hire another sucker for their wall of shame board and for more subsidy compliments of you the tax payer.

 

You're reading too much into what he said and coming up with your own assumptions.When he starting with Roehl it went great.But after getting false hope one right after another of course you're going to start to get angry,would'nt you?Thats a problem with many companies,they hire students,drivers but don't start getting things together till after a couple days into the company.He got hired to make money and to make money for the company.He did not get hired to sit.Roehl should have gave him money for leading him on the way they did.
