Well my truck broke down yesterday. Got towed to an outside shop which doesn't open till this morning. Got question on why I got a room by my DM. Lets see, truck is locked in a secured yard where I wouldn't have any access to water, restroom or food. No thanks.

I just started with knight so far the miles are good, but home time is a problem. I was told I would be home every 2 weeks for 2 days, I'm going on three weeks out. Knight has been very misleading. It's not that they lied about anything, it's that the failed to mention certain key things. I quite disappointed with knight so far. Also I don't care for the equipment they get the cheapest trucks they can. With no APU I'm allowed to idle the truck if it's over 70, but my mpg goes down; if I do it to much I loose my mpg bonus. Kinda lame I get punished for being comfortable. Knight needs to get the new quailcomm. The old one is so frustrating. If they keep screwing with me I will find something else.

Shaggy Thanks this. -
actually numbers wise there lease is not that bad. they pay a little higher then average per mile and the short haul pay goes up a lot more then company side. For instance a haul between 275-550 gets an extra $.10 per mile. They CAN(not always do) make more then company drivers but that's not a very high bar. If I had to rank them I'd put them middle of the pack with CRE being the worst and JCT being the best.

I think it comes down to the truck itself, something a lot of lease guys don't think enough about... If you have a fairly new truck with less than 150k on it you'll do pretty good... but if you settle for one of their 350k bargains- stick a fork in you, you're done. Knight does a lot of in house maintenance and they charge more than most truck stops do... plus, its "mandatory". I spoke to one driver who said he sunk $50,000 into repairs for just one year and another that got a $8,000 weigh ticket that Knight didn't pay... Just stuff to consider. Remember when you lease, its all on you. It's a big gamble anywhere... I don't like the idea of being told when I need service (every 7500 miles... WTF?!), how much that I have to pay for service (roughly 30% more... again WTF?!), and where I can get service done (the nearest Knight terminal where I'll wait 2 weeks without pay... GOOD TIMES). That's just me though... I don't like bankruptcy but if you can take the 'easy come, easy go' approach to life then more power to ya.

are you allowed yo take your knight truck home on your days off

Generally, not off the bat... but after a couple months its usually not an issue. I knew guys that did it. Of course, you can't just park it anywhere. Every terminal is a bit different on this. Things like having prior experience and a secured lot will probably help. As far as I know Knight WILL NOT pay for your spot so that's another $50-$250 (depending where you live) a month you'll spend to rent a space unless you have a gated driveway and live on a truck route.
