And to be fair with everyone were are speaking primarily to VAN Rates so it wouldn't be apples to apples if anyone posted Step or Flat rates from LS because SNI don't offer Those options on choice
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
yes, but it only happened to me once.
if you wanted to, you could book out a month in advance....only problem is, if that load you were going to pick up day after tomorrow cancels, you're kinda up a ###### creek. No, you won't get paid for the load (you only get paid for a DNU is if you actually show up on the property and they cancel you then......"oh hell, I forgot to call".) But the good news is, you just gotta re-book yourself....they'll pull the rest of the loads off you.
The other thing is that if you get somewhere and the load ends up with some kind of extra charge (detention, layover, whatever) you'll get that money too. I don't know, but I'm kinda sure that the LS folks aren't going to go to bat for you when you've been held over....."hey, the rate is the rate".....on the other hand I just got $300 for a detention / layover that wasn't my fault. Schneider folks are good people and they'll go to bat for you.
Think of it this way.....that LS broker has 'X' number of clients. Those clients make him a lot of money. One of those clients jacks over one of his drivers. Is that LS broker gonna get on the phone and say "look hoss, you owe my driver $300." Or, is he gonna tell the driver "tough titty"? On the other hand, Schneider has 10,000 x 'X' clients. They know the freight business. They know what they can and can't get. They have a vested interest in keeping the peace between the driver and the client. And, frankly, they actually care. I think that's the difference.Solarpower818, knuckledragger, Shakey52 and 2 others Thank this. -
As far as detention, I've never had a problem with it. Just today, at a trade show in Chicago, the load that was supposed to be ready, isn't. The agent simply said, keep track of your time and at the end let me know, and anything over two hours is billed at $80. That is typically the price range, $50-100 detention money that I see. I just got $1000 detention coming to me a couple weeks ago. The customer is notoriously slow, and I go their often. The only down side is Landstar doesn't pay detention (100%) until they are paid. I went to pick up a piece the other day and the shipper couldn't find it, the agent offered $250 TONU before I could say anything. The crappy part is LS takes their cut from TONU and I still have to wait until it's paid.

All very useful information Thanks Forty
Dip
I have also heard that once a load is booked at SNI I\it is the qued into the QC system and then dispatched to your truck in order of pick up and once its delivered its entered into payroll and the next load apears etc ...
I also here payroll cutoff is sometime monday for Friday payday is this also correct ? -
Thanks to all whom are giving info both LS and SNI
-
Just looked at SNI rates - .92cpm plus .15 cpm performance (?) pay, or 65% of billed revenue - up to $1.65/mile on sub 300 mile loads . . .
Any LS vans out there care to compare rates on van freight in those 2 categories? -
That up to 1.65 is not correct . I saw a SNI choice drivers settlements and he had a few loads in the following ranges
$2.10 Mo
$1.35 PA
$1.81 OH
$1.59 WI
$1.05 TX ( south TX )
$1.22 TX ( Dallas area )
$0.97 PA
$1.12 NJ
$1.66 KY
this is was actual rates off his settlement it's all over the board but not Up to 1.65russellkanning Thanks this. -
I also would like to see the comparison . I've been told the LS board puts the gross revenue on the board so you must figure 0.65% to get your rate but they do hold out the FSG portion at 100% but the gross is the gross but can swing it slightly in your favor if you get a agent to swing a few more CPM in the FSG but I'm told they won't do much
Shakey52 Thanks this. -
The rates vary, not all loads are the same. Agents book freight base on urgency and what they negotiate with the customer. You could pull a 1000 mile load @ 1.75/mile plus fuel one trip then pull a load the next at $1.50. Those numbers are not fact just easy round numbers to show an example.russellkanning and blairandgretchen Thank this.
