Diary of a newbie tanker yanker

I just started pulling double-tankers for Button Transportation out of Dixon, CA. The stuff I haul never lets me get much past the half-way point in my tanks. Normally haul 52,000 lbs of 10-34-0 and them tanks are smooth-bore too. It gets rough when that stuff starts shaking back there and it just beats the hell out of me.

 

I luved food grade tanker yankin.
Easiest job I had.
I call it the lazymans ride.
Works for me.

You'll learn to be most gracefull in your shifting & braking.
I think I banged the tank once when I was first learning.
It can knock the wind out of you.

 

Around here, they make a lot of fire water haulers out of old milk trucks. They are some very dangerous rigs, particularly with the igits they have driving at some of the volunteer stations. I saw one get knocked through a red light coming off the interstate a couple weeks ago. He hit his brakes real late and stopped for about 2 seconds then kind of got slung through the light.
